Are you going to switch?

I was in the Nexus One forums and they seem to have inside intel on when the N1 is going to come out to Verizon. They say that in the next week - week and a half it is going to come out with a special "surprise." I am personally going to update to the N1 UNLESS this special surprise is HTC Sense. Are any of you going to switch to the N1? I don't have an upgrade due for another 9 months or so, though I'll pay full retail for the phone.

This is just my opinion, and a gathering of information I've heard. But, the Nexus One for Verizon will be a vanilla Android phone. Now, the HTC Incredible is launching soon as well. It is pretty much the N1's sense-enabled brother. Same form factor, screen size, but one with, and the other without HTC Sense.

I don't think that the N1 would be a Vanilla Android, though I could be wrong. The N1 is Google's actual "baby" and I'm pretty sure that they made the N1's custom UI. Plus, the N1 UI has been a hit amongst a lot of people.

Well, given that the Nexus One is already out (T-Mobile) and my gf has one, I can tell you, it's vanilla Android. Just sayin.

But as far as your question, I'm looking to switch to the HTC Incredible. The Nexus One depending on if they underclock the snapdragon in it or not, may end up being slightly more powerful than the Incredible, but I love Sense. I imagine the N1 will cost more out of the gate, too.

You know it is possible to turn Sense off, so it really shouldn't be the dealbreaker. But there are also rumors that the HTC Incredible is coming to Verizon. This is similar hardware to the N1 and will have sense, so I doubt the Verizon N1 will have it too.

As far as upgrading, I am not up for an upgrade till September, so I'll be hanging into the Eris at least till then...

A few weeks ago, I would have thought it to be a done deal and switched, but the N1 really isn't as great as it is made out to be. It has many faults that are similar to the Eris or just as annoying. Overheating, screen quality issues, and the paint coming off a mere two months after owning it. I've read several articles and reviews (not forum posts) that indicate the phone is as refined as one would think.

The big deal seems to be the processor, but every new Android phone is coming with Snapdragon now so while it is the best processor available, the N1 isn't the only one with it.

The thing that makes me want it is that it is google's phone. They are going to be pushing the updates and we're not going to have to wait for HTC to fix the sense UI for the next update (given reason for Eris not being updated). The speed of the processor comes second to quality for me.

Then the phone is perfect. Don't get me wrong, I love my Eris and have never had any of the problems listed above. The only reason I am switching is because it will get all of the updates from google for a long time. No need for Sense to be updated or anything. Once the update has been tested, it goes to Verizon and then they push it out.

I know you can turn Sense off, though I don't want to go through the hassle of removing it completely from my phone. In all honesty, I don't like sense at all so it wouldn't be enough for me just to remove it from defaults, I would want to root my N1 and then remove it which is to much trouble in my book. Plus, with having sense, HTC would have to update that for the new update before your phone is ready in their eyes to have the update.

I think i will wait for the incredible for the simple fact that most likely the N1 wont be in stores for me to play around with i always like to play around with a phone some before i purchase it to make sure I like it.

I don't know about switching from my Eris to the Nexus One, but I was thinking about getting one either as a separate number/account or as a second phone to switch use of now and then like what Carmendiva was talking about she does (in another thread).

But yeah I think you should get the Nexus when it comes and sell your eris because i doubt you will want to keep switching from a GREAT phone to a subpar phone(comparing the two android phones)

There is nothing wrong with my Eris, though. Why get rid of something that there is nothing wrong with?

Getting the Nexus One (or another device I might feel that way about) would just add to my enjoyment of these gadgets.

I'm sure you've gone over the threads and posts about maintenance of the device.

If it's slow, laggy or whatever, and there are not an inordinate number of things running in the background, and it's not loaded up with dozens of apps and hundreds of texts and emails, etc, I'd be looking forward to replacing it.

I just don't like how it's bigger 3.7 screen, never really liked the 3.5 of iPhone when I had that for 2 years... 3.2 is just perfect and really Eris is best 3.2 screen imo. The palm pre plus 3.1 being second best...

I will check out both and see which one I like better most likely the incredible since they will be in stores and I can get a feel as the way it looks and feels and how it runs.
