Root could someone send me these files?

Hey, I'm looking for the last version of Gingerbreads (just before ICS) zoomservice.apk and zoomservice.odex for the Bionic? my phone updated itself lastnight, I tried an older version from my rooted X, it made a menu option for it, but didnt work right and repeatedly froze the phone up. I'm legally blind and need this app. I got permission from verizon to root my device, just need the files.

Someone else will be able to help you more but from my understanding after the update to android 4.0 you cannot revert to gingerbread even if you are rooted.

After rereading your post I apologize as I thought you were attempting to revert back to Gingerbread as a whole but you are wanting to change an app in ICS back to what it was in Gingerbread.

indeed, I just need those 2 files to try to get that zoom box back, I almost had it but I think they were the wrong version, so I'm just looking for someone rooted with Gingerbread to copy those 2 files for me

verizon is offering a swap for another bionic with Gingerbread, or a Samsung S3, but after going to a verizon store, I cant read the test on the S3, even with the enlarged text.

well, found the file I needed, tried to install it the second I hit the "install" button, it said "application not installed"
being that it should reside in the "app" folder and I'm not rooted, would that have anything to do with it?
This is extremely frustrating, I cant see crap on the damn phone anymore.

You have to be rooted to install and uninstall system apps. Also, your file explorer has to have write permissions.

Android .apk files are actually .zip container files that usually include some Java classes in a file called classes.dex. When you see .odex files, that means that the classes.dex portions have been "pre-compiled" into binary bits that can be pre-loaded by Android and allow the app to load faster.

When a ROM is "de-odexed", the .odex files move those portions back into classes.dex files back into the .apk files. Many people do this so that they can "theme" a ROM - something that is difficult to do with an odexed-ROM.

If the ROM is no de-odexed, those odex files are critical to have.

You do have to be rooted to put files back into /system/app, whether it is a .apk file or a .odex file, or both.

gotcha, thanx for the info, originally (in Gingerbread) there were 2 zoomservice files (.apk and .odex), so I'm guessing I have to put both into the app file? I have root explorer to change permissions, just gotta figure outhow to root, then unroot my phone.

Why o you need those particular files? With ICS you can make *all* Fonts larger...or is that not enough?

those files are for the zoom mode in 'accessabilities' in Gingerbread, and no, the "huge" font isnt enough on a smaller phone unfortunatly. So regardless if I stay with the bionic or get the GS3, I'll have to mod it.

Makes sense. I wasn't being critical, just asking honestly.

I'm currently on vacation, so I cannot do much in the way of files, but I have every BIONIC update ever released, so I'm sure if I were at home I could get a hold of the correct files for you....

In order to 'install' those files you'll need to be rooted so that you can move the files into the proper directories. Even then, though, it may not help anything as ICS is not made to use that particular service anymore, and the version of Talkback installed on the phone does not have any sort of zooming capability.

Interestingly enough, the latest Android JB, version 4.2, supports screen zooming natively, so it's obvious that Google has been listening, but it doesn't help those of us with devices that are not running 4.2, eh?

I have a feeling, though, that aspect of JB should be available to install for rooted folks on ICS soon enough. I'll ask around.

Oh, I didnt take that as criticizum (cant spell either, lol).

heres the funny thing, when ICS first installed, I was ready, I had a version of zoomservice.apk on my sd card that I promptly tried to install, the FIRST and ONLY time I tried to install it, it did install, it made a menu item in 'accessabilities', and a 'on/off' switch like the others have, although when I turned it on, the box came up, but didnt zoom anything, and kept freezing up the phone, now, this was an old file from my droid X, and I didnt have the .odex file either, so I'm hoping thats the issue, I'm not gonna give up!

I found both the .apk and .odex for zoomservice for GB 2.3.4, so just gotta figure out how to root it and install the app.
