Help Google Sync Nightmare for S3

Hi all,

i purchased an S3 a few months back on the basis that i could sync my outlook contacts and calendar with my Samsung phone using my Google account and Google Sync loaded onto my PC. this allowed my phone to constantly sync via wi-fi or 3G without the need to use Kies (a very problematic program) and connecting directly to my PC.

This worked extremely well until i decided to reload my PC which meant that i had to re-install Google Sync. i was dissapointed to find that Google had discontinued this service and i now need to purchase a business account.

this seems crazy since i am not a business but a single user. i have trawled the web looking in vain to find a decent solution to my problem but have not found anything.

any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

yes I have tried reloading Google Apps Sync. however, they have discontinued the service and it is now only available to business customers.

only users with Apps Sync currently installed will be able to continue using the service. in my case, i have reloaded my PC which meant i needed to re install Apps Sync.

hence my problem.

hoping there is an alternative which doesn't involve having to pay a yearly fee for a single user.

like flash for android is unavilable but u can still get it easily

I am using a syncing software for Windows called gSyncit which enables syncing Outlook with my Google account with a plethora of options form contacts, calendar, notes and tasks. It's easy to setup and syncing intervals can be set from 5 minutes to 1 day and anywhere in between. It's a one-off cost of some $20 and lifetime updates are included. Wouldn't be without it. It works either one-way or two-way sync and once sync with your Google account your Outlook is always up-to-date (assuming you use Outlook of course).

Yeah, that would be my recommendation going forward. Any device that supports ActiveSync (and they all have to do this, to be viable) will work well with Hotmail/Outlook. Compare this to Google (requires Android or iOS) or Apple (requires iOS) and Outlook is clearly the most compatible major service around.

If you use MS Office, SkyDrive is pretty good also; the online applications being in many ways better than Google's own efforts.

I hate it when someone like Google, who preach openness, shoot themselves in the foot like this.

Started using gSyncit when the free Google app started flaking out on me a little over a year ago (I use Google apps for my small biz), and after a flawless couple of days with a free trial I purchased the product for $20. Does exactly what it's supposed to Highly recommend it. Much better (and more reliable) than the Google version ever was

gsyncit sounds like a good option. dont mind paying a once off fee.

will also look into web outlook. dont actually use Gmail. only activated the account since i got my android phone.

I have used a software utility called Companionlink that is excellent for syncing Outlook with Android devices. You can sync directly through a USB or, better, sync over the internet directly to your gmail account. I use Companionlink to sync my contacts, calendar and tasks to my gmail account and then they just feed to my various Android devices. Excellent software; strongly recommend based on what you've said.

except it won't sync notes OTA.
for notes I use a program called Evernote.
It is so much more than just notes, and it works great.

It took a little while to get used to but now that I am, it's second nature. I don't even have to think about it. (which is how it should be IMHO)
