Reading an Android book, I understand that app permissions can only be changed if phone is rooted. If so, why is that ?? A good percentage of people will not root their phones, so it is about time Google/Android changed this. I check to see what permissions an app I want to put on phone has before I accept it. I can only go by the number of downloads and feedback to tell me that a certain app is ok.

So any app that wants to know inside leg measurement or what I had for breakfast, if we want that app we have to accept their conditions/permissions. No app needs to access phone calls/ accounts and other should be private stuff. I never had this stuff with an iphone, and won't with android- I will just do without the app.
To say I am really hacked off with google is an understatement of the century-

WHY can't ONE password open up ALL their services.

Not noticing that there are multiple accounts in google, I signed in to one, couldn't access account, clicked on another account, had to change a password, then that one came primary and lost all my saved youtube videos.

If you have concerns about a particular app, please contact the developer. The contact information for each app's developer can be found in the Play Store. Many times, there are reasonable explanations for the permissions that are required.

Every application in Play Store will let you see exactly what permissions it is requesting before you download it. It's your choice whether to download or not. For the most part these apps are legit and you shouldn't really have to worry about the security. Those that have been shown to exploit are soon outed and usually removed soon thereafter.

So you might look at this as a step up from Apple... you get to see what the app is asking to modify before installing, and you can then make an informed decision.
