Apple is slowing down on ordering parts according to some business reports.
Possibly this:

Teenagers: Apple no longer cool, Microsoft Surface is in | Windows Phone Central

Plus a lot of Brits are abandoning FB. Probably too much of a hassle or no longer "Cool" either.

Facebook losing UK users - Over half a million left for Christmas | TechEye. $100 to email Zuckerberg? ???????

Everyone is waiting for the next big thing whatever it is.

Everyone forgets - "What goes around comes around" If the Surface takes off, in about 4 years it won't be "cool" either. Once everyone has one, you have to do or get something different to set yourself apart.

I don't care whats "cool" ... If I like it I'll use it regardless of what others say about it.

I don't care for apple as a brand so i tend to stay away from the products in whole. As far as facebook, I use it to stay connect with friends and family. I have family all across the US and in a couple countries, and I find it nice to have a place where I can go and know whats going on in CA. My dad loves it (in his 60s) He has reconnected with much of his high school friends that he hadn't seen in years. And since being on there he has reconnected with a few and seen them face to face.
Facebook is useful in some ways... but it does have its uselessness, games and chain letter themed statuses / pictures

Apple Might Have a Bad 2013: 10 Signs of Trouble Ahead

I feel like Google should heed this. I think this cycle of bigger is better and one size fits all is coming to an end. It's starting to look like consumers are ready to rebel over choice. With the big companies trying to lock you into their services, there will be a fairly good clash in the not too distant future.

Not sure what the news posted above really means. I seem to recall MySpace fell out of favor and it died. Although they apparently are trying to make a comeback. Perhaps FB is on its way out?

Apple will likely survive despite its financials at the moment. Perhaps Surface is the new Apple and legions of Fan People will buy them and leave Apple in the dust.

I'll wait until the annual reports and financials arrive before i proclaim the winners.

That said, we just do not know what Apple will release down the road. Perhaps they will introduce something we did not expect. I do hear rumors of some interesting developments, but I do not spread rumors.

I was at BB a few days ago and I spied a Windows tablet. I forget the make and model, but the screen was huge. Kind of cool. As an aside, I found a company that starts with Mac Books and turns them into tablets. They seem to like 13.3 inch tablets running the latest Apple OS.

apple does find ways to climb back from the dusts... it seems like .. it takes harsh times for apple to be innovative.

Computers
Music players
smartphones
tablets

but each time.. they seem to loose that high ground.
each time it is their walled garden that is their initial strength, then it's becomes it weekness. not willing to open up to other possibilities or partners.

i wonder what great new gadget / innovation they will wow us with next in 3 yrs.

My sentiments exactly. FB allowed me to find my father after over a decade of thinking he was deceased. So it definately has its uses.

A single report from a consumer research group doesn't mean anything, especially not knowing what methods they used to collect the data. Sales figures are suggesting the compete opposite--the Surface has been a complete flop despite massive marketing and Apple recorded a record high of ipad sales in Q3 last year. Apple may be losing market share, but we're not seeing a changing of the guard anytime soon in the tablet market.

Some of those sites aren't consumer, they are financial for investors. As soon as a stock drops, speculation starts, and Apple's has dropped.

A lot of younger people do care what's "cool" unfortunately. There have been instances of bullying in places over a stupid brand of boots or clothes. This eventually will get to a market. If kids start pestering for windows phones instead, then a lot of the group tends to follow. Look how fast fashion changes.

If the Surface can integrate more with a business, then what do you think the IT dept. will recommend?

Personally, if you find a use for a social site, that's good for you. I don't happen to want to be found. I use email for family and friends. I could care less about my high school or organizations where I used to live. I simply don't want to hear from them.

There's talk about a cheaper Iphone- that's where Nokia had Apple beat years ago.
You could get a working Nokia in the boonies of almost every Asian country. (I read Nokia India/Asia(in English) for grins.

I like Android right now - but if another form of Symbian or Linux appeared that was more useful to me, I'd drop android.

I don't particularly care for MS or Apple.

The other thing that will hurt them:

TMO is dropping subsidies. You can finance the phone. I'm starting to see talk of this elsewhere. People are buying cheaper phones. There's talk of a cheaper Iphone.

Another article said that V didn't find the Iphone to be as profitable as they thought.
Haven't seen any remarks from ATT and Sprint.

Its all about their investors. They put an iphone 5 on sale this Christmas, which is not a good sign. They did not release anything exotic cool in 2012 as well. On another hand they have bunch of cash on their hands, they just need to come up with something cool. Like iwatch or something.

The Apple share price has dropped like a stone over the last few months from over $700 down to under $500.

Hard to see what they're going to do next. Steve Jobs wanted to do something with TV - again - but they didn't have much success with it in the past.

For those who say that Apple could do something truly innovative: they never have it in the past. Apple takes existing ideas and make them work better - MP3 players, smartphones and tablets (Bill Gates was pushing them way back in the last century) had all been around for years before Apple took an interest. Under Steve Jobs they managed to make these things look and work better, they haven't shown much sign of doing anything similar under Tim Cook.

As for facebook, much as I would like to see that tank (there's something obnoxious about Mark Zuckerberg), it's too dominant to see that happening any time soon.

been thinking about what apple would do .. for its next big thing...

TV would be an easy answer..
but i see it going dumber.. being a terminal connected to a more powerful .. smartphone or tablet device. a slave device.. like the rest of the house.

i think.. maybe the google glass project...
maybe apple is already working on some super secret implementation of that.. and will release it within 2 years..

I personally do not like that line of thought because it omits many details.

Ogg invented the wheel, but his "invention" is nothing like the wheels we see today. Perhaps the portable music player predates Apple/iPod, but it took Apple to tie iTunes, the iPod and other iDevices together and build a vast empire.

I'll bet no matter what product you think is truly innovative can be traced to something in the past, so perhaps everyone stole from everyone else. Come to think of it, this is what happens.

A German invented the first electric guitar, but he is lost to history and others get the credit.

I once owned a Vaden Clio, running Windows CE. Did Apple "steal" the idea? No, but they did give us the iPad and it is absolutely nothing like my old Vaden. In my view, Apple, for the most part, brought us the first tablet computer worth a darn.

Some still argue that the iDevice is one of the biggest reasons we have Android devices. I'll let the others bat that one around.

We just do not know what Apple has waiting in the wings. Perhaps Cook wont bring us anything new. Perhaps what we have now is the last "insanely great" Apple product.

The next big thing(s) will be these:

1- Apple will license iOS and 65.98 percent of all Android makers will jump ship for iOS;

2- The iPhone 6 will run Android and be compatible with iOS;

3- The iPad Mini 2 will feature a phone and it will be called the iPod Maxi.

When sales slow and the market for iPads becomes saturated, all they need to do is reduce the price. I think many Android tablet people would opt for an iPad selling at the $149.00 - $200.00 (or less) mark.

As long as the iPad sells well, prices are not comming down.

My view is most people buy Andrpid tablets because they are less costly than the iPad in many cases.

Hell, right now, I can purchase Chinese tablets for 30.00 or less. In one case, around 20.00 per unit if I take a container full. Not to mention, 12 cent stylus and 90 cent cases of every color.

Apple does quite well with their business model. Can/will it last? I do not know.

Apple has a closed system that few can penetrate. They tie their iDevices to iCloud and iTunes and for most--the vast majority in fact, it is a good system that provides everything the customer could want.

It is an old story, this Company Store.

Not sure Google is any different; they almost demand you use a Google product if you purchase an Android phone or tablet. Microsoft has their Market but I cant comment because I do not study MS/Surface.

Not sure the sales data supports this idea of a rebellion. Although, I think Apple wishes Samsung would go away. I am liking the S3 more and more. The only reason I did not go with an iPhone is the S3 has a much larger screen. Perhaps I will go for a Note after all.

bob.. you just kind of defined why android is doing well and growing. you like apple stuff.. you think they do it right... but you just stated the CHOICE of bigger screen makes you happy.

google, apple, MS .. each have their own ecosystem.. things that work in their own OS. kind of unavailable. Difference is hardware.. and how you like it for your personal needs. apple, has their way and you deal with it.

android is choice:
want big or bigger?
want sdcard?
want battery?
want waterproof?
want tough?
want whatever???

apple does find good needy market.. makes a great product for it.. then just cant change with market demand. becomes stagnant... gets left behind... history has already shown this... looks like it will repeat.

again i wonder what great new product they will come up with next.

Licensing is not in Apple's DNA: they want to control everything and you don't do that by letting other people use your stuff. First thing Steve Jobs did when he went back to Apple was to kill all of the licensing agreements for the Mac O/S.

2- The iPhone 6 will run Android and be compatible with iOS

The company that just spent hundreds of millions of dollars developing their own mapping software for the sole reason that they wanted to throw out Google maps is - one year later - going to switch to Android?

Yeah .. don't think so.

And you think it is odd that a company would want to create their own products rather than rely upon the competition? Not surprising and who knows, it might have worked better than Google's efforts.

As for Apple licensing iOS, we do not know what Apple will do sans Steve Jobs. Most certainly, SJ would never allow it. Perhaps yes, probably no, but not definitely no.
