Google Plus dependencies?

I bought a Chinese Bambook S1 phone. I managed to install all Google services (like location, play store, syncing various googe services like Picasa, contacts etc).

The only thing I cannot install is Google Plus. The market says it is incompatible with my device - and even if I try installing it from an APK, i only get the message "application not installed".

What could be missing? Unfortunately these error messages do not give me any clue. I have JB 4.1.1 and an ST-Ericsson U8500 chipset.

That might be the problem.

Google+ is not available in China. So I'd guess they've never tested it for compatibility, given that you had to install the Google stuff yourself.

The biggest dependency that comes to mind would be having the latest Google Play Services installed.

Thanks for the replies.

I was thinking more in this direction - I did install several Google services (some of them when I noticed something was not working and then I was looking for missing services). But maybe something is still missing? I am not an Android expert, but it was easy to guess I had to replace the location services apk to use google maps rather than baidu..

But I have no clue now - Hangouts is working, Play store is working, contacts mails etc are synced...

Now if it was really that my phone was marked incompatible - would it still be impossible to install even the apk that I downloaded separately, "off-store"? Now that i remember there is another incompatible app: Google Goggles does not install either.

So there must be something "Google-related" that is still not there - or is there something with the hardware? (This chipset is used in brand mobiles too).
