I attempted to flash my phone with jellybean 4.2.2 with a CM 10.1 custom rom. It apppeared to me that all went well as is read "Install from zip complete" for both custom rom and Gapp files. when i choose reboot however the device is stck in boot loop where it displays the CyanogenMod boot Logo.

I tried restoring from the backup that i did and the same thing happens...it will not pass the Samsung Logo boot screen.

Please help........!

Could you please assist with a link for a newer TWRP recovery....

You can flash this in recovery TWRP_2.6.0.0_Hercules.zip

Or use Odin to install this one twrp-2.6.0.0-hercules.tar

Any backups you made with CWM, TWRP won't read, so make another backup.

Were you able to fix your bootloop or restore a backup? If you ever need to go back to stock you can use this Odin guide and then you can reroot.

After installing TWRP do I have to install superuser....?

If you're already rooted no. If you're not rooted, and your running Jellybean, after you install TWRP;

Power off and boot into TWRP recovery.

In TWRP, Select Reboot, then System, TWRP will tell you that you are not rooted and ask if you want to root. Use the Swipe bar at the bottom to root then follow the instructions to install SuperSu.

Take a look at this about using TWRP to install a rom. The 'Wipe, Advanced' pic is a little different because its from version 5.2.0.1. Just wipe Dalvik, System, Data and Cache.

Then go back to the main menu and tap install. Select CM 10.1, then tap "add more zips" and select your Gapps. 20130301 I think it is. Then swipe to install. After it installs, tap the wipe cache/dalvik button and reboot.

Atma, thanks a million you have been of great help....4.2.2 I like....but I can't get the mobile data to work even after entering APN settings. Do you have any suggestions. Note though that with the stock rom the APN settings are entered automatically.

You have the Telus phone? Is that correct? Check this thread. Try flashing the SGH-T989D TLMC4 (Telus) 4.1.2 radio in recovery. (its the first one in the list) Wipe dalvik/cache and reboot. See if that works.
