Root [MetroPCS] Metro PCS GS4 ROOT (SGH-M919N)

I'm guessing the problem people have with no WiFi using that method to root has something to do with the kernel that is flashed. It used to be the only method to get around the locked kernel in the MDL T-mobile update. There's another metro member used my guide in the Tmo root forum who has the same no WiFi problem.

Would it be a problem to flash a different Tmobile kernel on the metro? Is there an odin flashable stock firmware for the metro? I've looked but can't find one.

Atma I am not sure if the root is causing that prob with wifi since stock was the same prob. How to Fix Samsung Galaxy S4 WiFi Problems

Thanks, I remember the router problems now. I'm not sure that's his problem. It seems to have started after he rooted. I'll suggest it to him though.

Atma, even Kies said there is no firmware support for our SGH-M919N. Lets see if sanmobile is able to release it in a few days.

Yeah I checked sammobile this morning. Hopefully they'll get something soon so Metro users can unroot for softbrick or return purposes.

Hey guys!!! new at this galaxy s4, not that new at android tho!

Got my metro s4 today, this beast is just pure awesomeness!!!
Is the method mention here by shaby in post# 31 the way to get root???

Congrats on your S4 Guspeed! I think the easiest way is use Odin and install CF-Auto-Root and then install a recovery of your choice either using Odin or Rom Manager or GooManager. If you're new to Odin you can see how to here.

Thanks Atma, I'm very happy with my new beast!!!

I'm not new at odin, I used to odin the crap out of my prevail long time ago, maybe a little rusty, but I'm good.

I've downloaded the the cf-auto-root zip, I'll root maybe over the weekend, BTW, thanks for the link.

Now my next question is about the triangle away apk, I've seen people saying that doesn't work, true or false???

It worked fine for me. I think the question is it really needed. Just using odin to go back to stock may cause everything to show 'Official' in settings and download mode. Some have had trouble doing that without using TA. There is supposed to be a hidden flash counter that only TA can reset to 0. Since it is hidden, I don't know how to prove it. :D

If you decide you want to use it here is a good guide.

flash this using teh guide there, then flash http://download.chainfire.eu/339/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.41.zip?retrieve_file=1

and youll be rooted, recovery is universal between the variants and you have NO risk of bricking anything :)

I have the Metro Galaxy S4 and a 64gb Sandisk ultra micro sd....
I got rooted and am using your recovery ( love the swiping ...)...
but I'm struggling between roms...
I want the wifi hotspot enabled... and my sdcard to both run on the same rom....
struggling with that... my sdcard is 64gb and using exFat? and I think everyone else is plain fat32.... is it a brick wall to keep using the new sdcard I have loaded with 50 gigs of stuff (loathe to wipe it and repartition-obviously...)....or is there something I can maybe do to make my own custom rom incorporating acceptance of exFat 64gb sdcards and having the wifi hotspot?
Some roms see my sdcard easily but most say its damaged or doesnt even register/mount....
I have looked for the hotspot as an apk but I'm a noob really and the ones i've dloaded dont work... and I dunno where to look in the system folder to find the whole working apk/stuff in roms that have working wifi hotspot...

You guys are busy doing hard stuff- I know..but could you throw a crumb to an old veteran who isn't that savvy ( and tired from doing doubles at my security guard gig-to make the rent... I just can't concentrate.)...
Pointer on the hotspot capability and whatever stuff I need to modify a rom already recognizing my sd card (4.2 JB roms) or aokp? pretty please.
Or maybe a quick rom with wifi hotspot capability -with exfat 64gb micro sdcard easily recognized?
Any help or tips would be warmly accepted.
