Got my Nexus One today; I've been busy

I already have VOIP setup for incoming and outgoing calls (not enabled by default). I followed THIS guide. I'm just going to use the VOIP when my minutes get low. I'm using Google Voice, sipgate, and google voice callback (app.)

My favorite game so far is Abduction!

When 120 days of my contract are up, I'm going to consider changing my plan (on the 2 year plan). Since google doesn't charge you after that for termination:

The phone is incredi....ehhh its really awesome! Thanks to all the forum members here for all the insight which I used with my android phone.

My previous phone was an ericsson w760i. It did a bunch of stuff, but not very well.

The Google Voice Callback app is pretty nice. It gives you the option to call normally or make your call VoIP. I wish the official Google Voice app would do this.

Hi, The google voice callback started failing authentication, so I switched to gv dialer and it works great. Thanks for the guides. Sometimes it gets a little choppy (on 3G), but not enough to interrupt a conversation. My home wifi doesn't work very well so I haven't been using that.

That's interesting. GV callback has always worked for me. I did read in its comment section that other users had an issue w it. I never looked in the paid apps section for a gv callback app. Thanks for letting me know about that app. I'll add it to the guide as an alternative. Also doesn't look like an exact knockoff of Evan's gv app.

I just signed up for T-Mobile so when I have some free time I'll be adding 3G results to the test section. I'd expect some choppiness in 3G calls vs a solid wifi connection. I'm curious if 3G is usable in a moving car.

Anyone know of a nice "Getting Started" list of apps? There is a Favorite Apps thread but it had 450 replies so far, and stretches back to 2009. I'm looking for a single page list of the top 2 or 3 apps arranged by category, and kept up to date.

For those of you that are reaching for your keyboards to tell me to Google it; been there, done that. What I found is lots of static lists and most were posted in January. The Android app list is exploding in size so January's best apps might not even make the top 3 now.

The other thing I noticed is a lack of consensus in the lists. If you are a heavy N1 (or 2.1 I suppose) user and have found a list that matches your likes and dislikes please share...

Dialer one is an excellent dialer allowing t9 contact search and many other missing functions that the remarkably unfinished stock dialer leaves out. Wapedia makes for quick searches of wikipedia and some other large wikis and is often a faster way to find pointed information than google/web searches. There are a number of file explorers and you're going to need one. Most seem pretty similar to me, I am using astro. Juice defender free does a good job of increasing battery life by disabling apn during sleep/standby. HandyCalc is an awesome calculater. Movies by flixter to get the local show times. Shazam comes in handy for putting a name to that song. I use bar scanner and shop savvy, already saved 149.99 on an item which makes them worth the free download for me.
