That's how you install the factory update. To enter CWM, you hold Volume Up + Send Button (leftmost button) then hit Power.

I'm confused... That takes me to Gmail log-in, and once logged in it gives me a Gmail error... What does this have to do with CWM???

I was able to root a Cricket Ascend with Z4 Root, and also installed SuperUser and Terminal Emulator. Then I put CWM, the CM7 ROM and gapps on the SD card. I was getting nowhere with the Terminal Emulator commands, so I downloaded ROM Manager. With that, I was able to flash CWM and boot into the CWM recovery screen (which will show orange text against a black background and give many more options rather than the stock four).

After backing up everything (apps, texts, contacts, SD card, etc.) did wipe data/ factory reset and wipe cache. Flashed the CM7 ROM. Stuck in boot screen for a long time, so I took the battery out, went back into recovery (POWER + VOL UP + SEND [far left bottom button]). Wiped data and cache again, then went into "mounts and storage" and formatted the boot, data, system and cache (I should have formatted battery stats, since the battery readings have been rather erratic, but I'll save that for later). This did the trick!

Once you're in there, be careful of overclocking. I had it set to 710 (I went with a lazy ROM), and the Ascend kept rebooting. Moved it down to the mid 600s range. Aside from that, everything works well, or at least as well as this crude little phone will work.

For those of you that are not familiar or comfortable using the terminal on your phone or having problems installing cwm via terminal, here's a guide on how to flash cwm via your desktop pc.

*Note* Phone must be in debugging mode- Go to Settings > Application settings > Development and check USB debugging.

1) Download the CWM Recovery file located at the bottom of this post and unzip it to your desktop

2) Attach phone to USB

3) Power Phone Off

4) Enter Fastboot (press End Call + Volume Down while powering on the phone). Your Huawei Ascend will boot to a white background with the Huawei logo in the center.

5)Run the script relevant to your OS from the CWM Recovery folder that you extracted earlier.

A) For Linux users - Run the "install-recovery-linux.sh"
B ) For MAC users - Run the "install-recovery-mac.sh"
C) For Windows users - Run the "install-recovery-windows.bat"

6) When you run the appropriate script, you will see a command prompt window open and disappear. When the window disappears, CWM is installed.

7) Now take the battery out of your phone for 10 seconds and replace.

Now you are able to boot into CWM recovery. To boot into recovery, press Send + Volume Up while powering on the phone and keep Send + Volume Up pressed while booting. Now you should be in CWM recovery.

Will this method work for the Huawei Ascend Y h866c? There is no fastbooot option for this phone. Or is there?
A little help would be appreciated.

Wait... people still own the ascend? Like the m860? Holy cow man.

Oh, wait.. New model?

Anyway, I am assuming you're hoping that the recovery for the m860 Will work on your phone... this is an unlikely scenario. As far as I know the cwm was only good for one other phone, the m835.

Me, too. Still works fine, still has CM7, still slow as hell lol. Was a great learning phone just because you had to tweak it so much just to get it to work somewhat correctly.:)

All of us love our 15 minutes of forum fame. LOL

Heck yeah we do!!!

The Guide was EPIC!

Now that I have the time I'm building guides for all my old phones and my gtab 2.

Waiting on permission from a bunch of folks to include their roms and mods as well as emergency mirrors in case their links break. It takes about a month per device, the tab is gonna take longer because of the plethora of roms for it.
