Signal Performance?

Just wondering what others are experiencing with their Awe's signal performance... With my Awe alongside two OVs, I noticed that the Awe is showing some Time-Without-Signal (TWS) while the two OVs are showing none at all. This is the result for the Awe overnight:

Hmm, maybe it's just my particular phone... :(

It has to do with the prl. Sadly when we get an updated prl it does not always make the signal better. I had an evo 3d that had great signal until I updated the prl. Sometimes flashing a sprint prl instead of a vm one helps. Not sure how to flash a new one on this phone.

There are a lot of myths and misconceptions regarding PRLs, more info at:

Both my OVs have been switched to Sprint PRLs, and their signal performances are the same as before the change when they'd VM PRLs. I believe the Awe's radio and/or antenna design are likely inferior IMO when compared to the OV's performance. One does get what you paid for, cost-cutting efforts, rush-to-market, and engineering short-cuts lead to inferior--hopefully not defective--designs... For $20, they were practically giving it away, so I'm not surprised something has to give somewhere... No issue for me though, as I could always use the Awe as a WiFi media player, a GPS logger, and a micro-tablet with JB--not too shabby for $19! :D

He's right, the PRL really doesn't help. It's just a list of towers and your phone goes by the nearest one to connect to.

As for the poor signal...could be just your phone. The only time I'm without a signal is when I'm in the UPS freight building. Anywhere besides that, I'm good.

Now for someone who mentioned flashing PRLs...HOW do you get Virgin Mobile to *fork* over your MSL without having to lie? Because I know you have to use CDMA Workshop or some other tool to flash a prl file.

When I was on my evo I just asked them for it and they gave it to me. Not every tech will do that for you but the one I was talking to did. Had no signal at work but now i get 2 bars which is still better than nothing.
I'm talking about through Virgin Mobile. Although it would be pointless to flash any PRL on a prepaid since roaming isn't allowed.

Also, since you have an EVO, you could have used MSL reader to get your MSL. (Since that app only works on older model HTC phones like yours.)

I am talking about virgin mobile. I called them up and asked for the MSL the tech asked me why I needed it. I told him I have crappy service and wanted to flash a PRL he laughed and gave it to me. Didn't know about the app at the time or the fact that my rom had the code in a txt file.

Flashing the prl gave me better service but everyone's result will vary. I got tired of the crappy signal at work and it fixed it after several different prls. Who knows maybe they were just working on a tower in my area and fixed it.
