Root [Virgin Mobile] CyanogenMod 10.2 Stable Release/Official CM 11 Upcoming! (Edit: It's Here!!)

Posted on the Boost side as well, forgot to post here: my APN's stayed the same for the first time ever after a flash, dirty or clean. Therefore, I did not have to reflash the APN fix from MopedRyder. Wetbiker7 on the Boost side confirmed MMS send and receive for me via Hangouts (it replaced stock SMS app on both CM and GApps side apparently), so huge thanks to him!

Nice, oddly enough all of my dirty flashes haven't needed the apn fix reapplied come to think of it since i've started using cm11.

Not sure if i'm feeling this default hangouts thing though...hmm. Here's the default mms apk that can be installed if you aren't feeling it like myself.

Thanks for getting that posted. I'm gonna give hangouts through tomorrow so I can have an informed opinion but I'm leaning your direction on the initial reaction!

I am using the launcher that came with it. It's very basic imo. It's been so long since I've used a launcher at all. Not sure was to use. I did pay for adw a long time ago. I guess I could use that. Any suggestions?

I like adw too. There is a free version of both Nova and Apex if you want to try them first, I almost always use Nova myself. I also still have two invite codes available for Aviate if you want one it is yours. Let me know.

What's the difference between Nova and Nova Prime? Is there a real reason to upgrade? I'll take a code if you still have, always open to something new. Is it any good?

All right, all is well with a dirty flash and installation of newest PA GApps! Don't worry if initial boot hangs after a few seconds, it will restart itself and boot just fine. This has actually happened to me about half the time on CM 11 anyways when rebooting back from recovery. Standard disclaimer from OP applies about bricked phones, personal responsibility, etc., etc. Also, I in no way claim to be directly responsible for the original ROM or GApps, these are just the versions I modified for personal use after downloading. All credit goes to CyanogenMod Team and Paranoid Android. Modification of build.prop to set SELinux to permissive did not stick or else I need to modify another line I don't know about, so for now changing from enforcing to permissive requires manual intervention. Good luck, happy flashing!

Modified CM 11 Nightly from 12/12/2013:

Modified PA GApps (Full package) from 12/12/2013:

Don't forget, appropriate APN fixes (specific to Boost or VM, depending) are still necessary.

So we can dirty flash both of these and be okay? Also we don't have to flash the APN fix anymore?

Nova Prime is just the paid upgrade to Nova, it unlocks all features, like certain gestures and I can't remember what else is different between the free and paid without checking on Play Store, I've had it for so long. It was one of those apps where I loved the free version so much it was worth it to upgrade almost immediately and support the developer in the process. As far as Aviate, I've barely used it but very interesting concept, Google it and I think you will get their homepage which has a couple of videos showcasing things, I think the videos are probably also available on YouTube. If you like what you see after seeing the videos, shoot me a PM with your email so I can send you an invite code to activate the launcher.

You need to be running some version of CM 11 from the last few days, as it was only released as a nightly starting on 12/7 in order to dirty flash. If coming from CM 10.2 or any other custom ROM, full wipe and clean install. I provided the very first nightly, modified, in case anyone wanted to try it out without putting in too much effort. Ditto for the 12/12 nightly, which was the first one with 4.4.2 (Google went from 4.4 to 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 in very rapid succession, with only four days between the last two, so official CM 11 released last week as 4.4.1 and then promptly caught up to Google's source code last night). I included GApps the second time around because there are starting to be very distinct GApps packages for each KitKat build, unlike 4.3.x where GApps for 4.3.x worked on both 4.3 and 4.3.1. And to reiterate, I am in no way taking credit for the original work by CyanogenMod Team or Paranoid Android, these are just the versions I downloaded and modified for personal use, shared with my friends here on the forums from my Dropbox. As for the APN's, for the first time ever I did not have to reflash the fix from MopedRyder as part of the install, the APN settings were preserved. Other users are noticing this on KitKat as well, so hopefully things are moving in the right direction.

Struck, if I'm coming from 10.2, I need to do a full wipe and install mopeds MMS fix, correct? Or does your modified already have the APN's changed?

This is considered a significant build number change if you are coming from 4.3.x to 4.4.x, so full wipe and clean install or else you will have issues. Dirty flashing is almost always fine when there is just an incremental change, this is what I did going from 4.4.1 (first official CM 11 nightly) to 4.4.2 (nightly from 12/12) as long as you aren't changing ROM's entirely (i.e. from CM to Carbon, which should be happening soon by the way, the Carbon download site I use is apparently down for maintenance, which I hope means they are about ready to start releasing their 4.4.x builds!). You should also still have to flash the APN fix, I don't know how to change that in the build.prop or what the fix even really does from a technical standpoint, I just know that it works. However, once flashed, it has stuck from one 4.4.x build to the next, for myself and other users. Speaking of APN's, they are now accessed from the Voice Dialler function, open it up and say (clearly and slowly, for me at least, Google can't seem to pick up my deep voice very well for speech recognition) "Open APN."

what is the difference between these modified nightly files and the sprint versions directly from the CM website? Would it change alot if I flashed those nightlies? also, I noticed there isn't alot of VM specific roms floating around. Do alot of people just flashed sprint specific roms ie... from xda?

These were downloaded directly from CM website, and yes they are the Sprint (d2spr) versions. All I have done is what is listed in the OP: modified asserts so VM and Boost users can flash, debloated apps I don't use like live wallpapers, Apollo, Email/Exchange, as well as a debloat of the LatinIME app, which is the keyboard; the keyboard app contains a bunch of language dictionaries which most English speaking users aren't ever going to need but they take up about 20 mB of the overall .zip file size. If you were to download yourself from CM, you would need to at the very least modify the asserts or else you will get an "error 7" message and a failed flash. As far as development, there is a little bit of stock-based development going on, I think my man JD is looking to up those stats a little now that his Knox-free stock build has been met with great success, otherwise we (and Boost too) piggyback off of the Sprint development, as all three phones are known as SPH-L710, which means the relevant parts are all the same. Please read my tutorial if you haven't already done so, it is stickied at the top of the VM root forum, but here is the link:

http://androidforums.com/virgin-mobile-galaxy-s3-all-things-root/791952-all-in-one-guide-modifying-custom-sprint-roms-virgin-mobile-use.html

As always, keep asking those questions! I would much rather share my advice/opinion/knowledge in advance than try to bail you out of an odd situation because you forged ahead without all the necessary tools. I know Britton, JD, and other frequent posters feel the same way. We are here to help; it is cliche, but the only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked. You will not get grief for posting something that may seem dumb or obvious to others, and if someone jumps you for it, we will jump them (in appropriate fashion of course).

One more positive about 4.4.2 I am noticing. Previously, after flashing the APN fix, I would always get the "process com.android.phone has stopped" message after every reboot (two times in quick succession), due to the phone trying to get everything up and running after a boot. While it obviously meant just a temporary "phone is unavailable" warning, it was really annoying and it got to where I knew not to try anything else after a boot until those messages had been cleared. No more of those messages on this build, which has been really nice even though it has pretty much nothing to do with the functionality of the phone!

Thanks to the Boost side and Rally517 for catching this. Users are reporting camera issues for 12/12 and 12/13 nightlies of CM 11, where camera freezes after one picture. One solution:
Download Cymera app from Play Store
Go to Settings/Apps/All, choose Camera, clear data, accept warning, then reboot
After reboot open Cymera, you should be able to use this app now to take pictures no problem

Tested it myself, very smooth app in general, will probably become my camera app of choice.

I flashed the 12/15 debloat and I get the message that "bluetooth share has stopped working". I re-downloaded it to make sure I didn't get a bad download. Just checking if anyone is having this issue. I went back to my nandroid

I will check my copy when I get back on my computer to make sure I didn't accidentally remove a Bluetooth app. Can you do me a favour and flash the first option just for grins to see if that error occurs again. Only deleted asserts in that one.
