Calendar - how do I duplicate events ?

Not the corp calendar, the regular one. I have a band I go listen to, and I want to enter their schedule in my calendar. Generally the same times and locations, so it would be cool if I could just copy an event to a new date and use all the stuff I already entered. Or make changes to any detail if I need to. This would also be useful for irregular meetings of any type. It is NOT a recurring event.

But Android Calendar does not seem to do that. Did I miss something?

for that kind of scheduling, perhaps using the sunbird application would be helpful. mozilla sunbird is a calander program for the computer which you can have synchronize with the google calendar that your phone uses. with sunbird, you should be able to copy an event paste it and then edit the times individually. hope this helps.

I think I could do it with the PC side of google calendar as you say, using cut/paste. I was hoping there was an easy way to do it on the droid. It should only be about 10 lines of code. Maybe in 2.1??

Ok, so for my Hero i can do the following:

1. create a new event
2. Set "Repeat" to Weekly/Monthly or anything you like. This will then copy exactly the information you have entered.
3. Go into the future to see one of the duplicates
4. Click edit, then choose to edit this instance only.

That will allow you to go in, and change the information only for that instance, whilst having the time location automatically filled in.

Not sure if that will help, but I'm pretty sure its the closest you will get (haven't heard of any app to do what you want)

So basically, I am a professional programmer. And it is very irritating that I can't duplicate events to whatever day/time I want. Especially so, because I could do this with my Razr no problem. My wife is also frustrated because her physical therapy schedule is the same place but never the same day or time. I am heavily considering making an app that would allow you to duplicate events to new dates and times. I would make it talk to the default android calendar app. Would anybody use this if you had to use a separate app for duplication? I am not making an entire brand new calendar. That's way too much work. It will be free of course. It would also be nice to know if Android 2.0 fixes this, which would make this whole idea obsolete.

The above workaround works but it is so clunky that it is pretty much useless for me.

Is there a way to EXTEND the standard calendar app? Open source, right? Maybe you can add a menu item to the existing app, rather than have a whole new app to go into when you need this function? Or extend the recurring options to include "Variable", and then pick or enter dates. Either way, we still have to go in and modify records where they are different (time, etc). No avoiding that unless you can write a "brain connect" module.

When you start to think thru the implications of a separate app, you will probably decide its not worth the trouble.

This is the entry for requesting exactly what we have been talking about. Please visit it and vote for it to show that it is an important issue.

It would be better for somebody already programming for android calendar to add this feature than for me to learn the calendar and add it.

Predictive text would be another way to help people who want duplicate events. Either way is better than what is available now.

Me! Me! Me! I'd even buy it from you. I can't believe that such a simple functionality was never built in.

I figured Android is pretty young so they would add this feature for sure in the next release. And I wouldn't have to do anything myself. It would've sucked to write it and then find out it was obsolete shortly after. So 2.1 didn't fix it. I doubt 2.2 will fix it. At this point I think they just don't care. Maybe this can be my summer project. This is just plain stupid that I have to do it. Obviously the people need it.

Wow, this an old question, so I'm not so sure if that info could be helpfull to anyone, but I used to copy events by Business Calendar Free (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=netgenius.bizcal from google play.

Imho it has a very poor and unpolished interface, but do the job.

Of corse as soon as this feature come to stock app I would unistall this app.

The method above is an ok workaround, I guess. Basically, take the entry you want to duplicate, create a weekly occurrence with 2 times, then go into the one it created a week away and edit that to the correct date/time.

Not the greatest, but it works.

Sure, many 3rd party apps offer this functionality. I'm currently using Business Calendar and it has that ability too, but I was hoping to just use the standard Google Calendar, but the lack of any easy/quick way to duplicate an event is a deal breaker for me.

I didn't suggest or prompt you to buy any application, I was merely showing you a way how to do it, but I see you already know how to do it with the "Business Calendar" that you already own and have been using.

I'm not suggesting that it is the definite reason why some obvious features have been left out, but it wouldn't be very good for the Google Play application economy or the developers if every piece of functionality was programmed into the core system applications, of which we know that they are very capable of doing, having built a whole operating system.

That no longer works. Holding an event doesn't bring up the menu. Why does Google do so many things but so few well? Many of their services lack basic features, especially on phones. Drive also lacks a "copy to" feature. Docs still lacks columns. Saving places in Maps is a mess.
