Root Rooting trouble....

I'm unlocked and have done this b4 with the design & prevail , hydro ..,,,, but this phone is giving me a headache and I can't figure it out.. I don't need s-off , just want to flash Roms & kernels..... Anything more might be dangerous to me ...

just skip the rooting process and head on over to the after root section which is on the second post.

I can't seem to figure out how to Root.. I have read all the Post's & still can't get it to work, like I said I have unlocked and I believe I am on hboot 2.18 , and firmwear 5 ????? , I have rooted my evo design b4 , don't remember it being this hard....any help would be very much appreciated.....

ok you did the htcdev unlock method which is the first step.....the second step is to get recovery and then you either need to flash a custom rom or flash the su file......the info is in the guide i linked.

please take a look at the info there and let us know if you have any questions.

just do the htc dev method.....step one is done......do step 2 and step 3 to complete it.

i will look into the links for the capt's method. but you are almost done with htc dev method.

i think the fastboot method is the easiest to get recovery IMO.

just tried the pc36img & it did not update just ran through it then nothing changed ....& this is the message i get......... Invalid Attachment specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator i don't know i'm @ a loss.... trying the fastboot method now ........brb oh ya , thank you 4 all your help !!!!!!!!!

hmmmm i just checked the links in the guide for the PC36IMG method and they should work.....but yeah the fastboot method try that.

may i suggest that you try mikg3.11 it is waaaaaaaay better then stock and it has su cooked in. you can get it here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html

check out the staff picks for the link.

also if you want to try something different then i would suggest trying deck's reloaded as well.....it is also in the staff picks.

and another thing do not forget to make a nandroid backup before flashing a rom.

nice!!!!!!

one suggestion save that nandroid backup. that way if you ever need to go back to a stock rom you will have one handy. i would save it to your computer, external hard drive and or the cloud.....i still have my very first nandroid backup ( somewhere )
