Help Nexus 7 2012 stops while hard reset?

Hi there, I've had my nexus 7 for one year and never had any major issues although it has been getting extremely slow past two months or so. For me, so NOT technically inclined I just grinned and bared it as I just loved it flaws and all. It is my first real electronic tablet and I really was happy with it. However out of the blue it simply rebooted itself and then remained this way on the google screen blinking over and over periodically until the battery ran out. I looked up how to factory reset it and it seemed to be going smoothly until it hit the wiping data screen where it simply stopped. My computer will no longer recognize it either. It says MTP USB installation device failed. Stayed that way until I pressed power button for 30 sec and again it turned off and rebooted itself now remains on the x screen.... I really would like to find a way to repair it as I use it all of the time and take it everywhere I go. If anyone knows how to help me I would love to learn how to get it back up and running again! Thank you

Have you tried factory resetting via the bootloader again? Make sure it's charged properly this time, see if that makes a difference.

You can install the OS from scratch again, but if you've not done anything like that before, try resetting again and if that fails, I'll link some guides for you.

Thank you. Yes I recharged it and tried to do it again however it stopped at the same point and just stayed like that. After 32 minutes I tried power button and it simply went back to google screen and then went to the X where it remained without turning off until the battery died once more... I miss my nexus.
Any links would be greatly appreciated but if they are really techie, they might be out of my league.

You can use a tool like Wugs Nexus Root toolkit to reflash a factory image. Wugs NRT is rather easy to use with many helpful prompts and guidance.

Follow the driver install guide first as your pc will need a driver that is different then the driver it uses normally.

Once that is done use Wugs NRT "Flash Stock and unroot” option with the soft bricked status.

Follow the directions carefully, make sure you select the proper device when asked, there are 2 nexus 7s so make sure you have the right one selected.

For the image select the highest build for 4.3 (jellybean) or 4.4 (kitkat).

Make sure the nexus is plugged directly into the computer and not in a USB hub,and use the factory cable if possible or a high quality replacement.

Good luck, you will find its actually easier then you would think.

Wooohoo thank you. Although it does sounds a little scary... Do I download on my computer and then attach my nexus to it to see if it will work? I know it is not rooted as I had no idea how to do it. I called Nexus support and they told me I could send it to them and it would cost me 231.00 to repair as my one year warranty ran out in December. I'd like to try it on my own first as that sounds very expensive, almost the same price as initial purchase.

That is rather expensive, you are better off trying to fix it yourself or buy a new one.

Yes, you download Wugs on a windows PC. Install it and run it, follow the initial driver guide and go from there.

You do not need to be rooted to reflash a factory image.

It's honestly not that difficult lauriah, the toolkit does 95% of the work for you and holds your hand through most of it.

You won't need root, but you will need to unlock your bootloader and the kit guides you through that too.
