Root Exploit Has Been Found. DO NOT UPDATE FURTHER

Will you hold off on the OTA until we get more info on the possible exploit?

So a new exploit has been discovered and devs are working on it.

What this means to you.

1. This WILL help for those who leaked to get root.
2. DO NOT UPDATE! This includes to the OTA when it is released.
3. Be patient, this was only discovered today and is only a possible exploit.

Possible root exploit zifnab06.net

EDIT: THIS IS ONLY A POSSIBLE VULNERABILITY. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE DEVS ARE NOT EVEN CONSIDERING THIS AS AN EXPLOIT AT THE MOMENT.

PLEASE DO NOT MESSAGE THE DEVS ABOUT THIS. THEY ARE ALREADY WORKING ON IT, DO NOT BOTHER THEM FURTHER!

Possible root exploit zifnab06.net

I took a peek at zifnab06's blog post, and I would call what he is working on a hypothesis, not an exploit.

It's a little early to be hollering "stop the presses", I think - remember when acidbath claimed the same thing when the Tattoo sploit was showing some promise?

Well, in any event, I hope zif can get zanfur to help pitch in and have a look. If there is any reason to be hopeful about this, it's because the bootloader code is not compiled with stack protection enabled.

woah. see this is the kinda discussion i was hoping for :)

yea, this is not a for sure thing, but if it does come out and you have already taken the OTA then you will be out of luck because as they mentions, google im sure is patching it up as we speak.

thinking of adding a poll. will you switch to the OTA when it comes out or will you stay on this leak, at least until more info is given on the possible exploit.

That would be interesting to find out, I like the poll idea.

Personally, I'm definitely going to hold off on the OTA. I don't have any major problems with 2.1v3 and I'm certain the OTA would be just as pleasing. However, the potential to gain root access outweighs the fact that I'm content with no bugs. Content, but still feel like there's more I could do.

for those of you who voted no, why would you update knowing that the leak could be rooted? not being sarcastic, its a legit question. are you the people who leaked only because they wanted 2.1 and coud care less about root?

To me it depends on how stable the official is, if it is awesome ill upgrade, if not im rooting (for live wallpapers and clear lockscreen)
