For those already on android, what apps to put on the evo first?

Live Scores - Android app on AppBrain

This is made by the same people who made Sportacular for the iPhone...not sure how similar it is, but from the screenies it looks pretty similar.

Thanks so much, SprintFun. This looks like an app that I'll be downloading for sure. I think this is the same one I saw on my cousin-in-law's Moto Droid! He showed me and I was sold on Android just after seeing that one app. It was instant updates and everything and if I don't feel like opening a browser to get scores, this is perfect!

Great thread! Thanks for all the info, everyone. This is my first Android phone, so this info has been very useful...have a nice list now saved over at AppBrain.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good pedometer app? The ones I saw on AppBrain had iffy reviews, and I'd love to have a pedometer app for when I run.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know if I will be more proud of the new phone or the app, but one thing is for sure.

THE best way to show off your shiny new EVO is to make your group of friends look at it and pass it around while playing a really fun game: :D

I know I so can't wait for this phone. I need to make my app list too. I saw where there was an app to make it easier to turn off the bluetooth. I always turn mine off when I get to work to save battery. I have to go to start settings and BT then turn it off. Be nice to have just a shortcut to that only on my home screen but I am afraid I am going to want too many apps. I don't know how many a gig will hold? LOL! My friend was hoping there was one to turn off GPS also pretty quick. Anything to save the battery.

I know it says you can have up to 7 home pages so that means different pages and each one can have it's own shortcuts to stuff that you want. Can each one have it's own background too? I read something about backgrounds and how they come to life and our animated. When I get an email now on my Windows Mobile if there is an animation it doesn't animate. Will it on this phone? And does the background stay animated is it like a screensaver?

But I can't wait to see how it is on this new phone. Will it come with several backgrounds? And is there a place to get specific Android animated ones? Guess I do need to go check out the Incredible and get a feel for Android. But it all sounds so cool.. I can't wait! I'm still learning my windows mobile phone and now I can't wait for this. Hope I pick it up fairly quick.

No need to get a separate app for this. Sense has built-in widgets for turning the radios on and off. If for some reason you don't like the look of the stock toggle options, there are many alternatives (free and paid) in the Market.

I have about 66 apps, games, and widgets installed on my Incredible, and they use only 159 MB of phone memory. Android apps are not bloated monsters. Its almost inconceivable that anyone would fill up an EVO with downloaded programs.

Yes there is a built-in widget for that too (see above), but it not necessary to toggle the GPS. The GPS radio is only turned on when a particular app needs it, which is very rarely. You can use network location for your weather apps and most other location-based programs because they don't require pinpoint accuracy. Only your Google Maps, Navigation, Google Earth, etc. type programs really need the GPS radio. Leaving GPS on is not a battery issue if you set up your widgets properly.

One background for all 7 screens. The visible portion of the background will change slightly as you move left and right if you have a static background, but its basically one fixed image.

Animated wallpapers are called Live Wallpapers. The Live Wallpaper animates as long as the screen is on. There are about a dozen stock Live Wallpapers to choose from, and many (free and paid) in the market. My current favorite is this one:

YouTube - Desire/??????aniPet Koi??????????androider.jp??

There is no animation for an incoming email; just a notification (status bar, sound, vibration) based on your settings.

The Incredible (which I bought solely to learn Android) has a very small learning curve. There are a few quirks to the system, but it is very easy to pick up. Do take a look at the Incredible if you have a chance because that phone will give you a very good idea of what the Android experience is going to be like on the EVO.

I didn't mean is there an animation for incoming mail. I meant if someone sends me an email with like an animated smiley or background will it animate in the email like a home computer and Outllook. Cause on my win mo phone now it doesn't. But thanks for answering everything else. I can't wait for this phone. I just know I'll probably want lots of apps or widgets.. My only fear is coming from the Touch Pro 2 and not having a keyboard. But I'll use speech to text or maybe try that Swype. But with the bigger screen I am hoping to be ok.. I just was told on my phone now turning off BT and GPS location saves on the battery. But I also am going tobe using my Touch Pro battery on the EVO as an extra one so I think I'll be ok..

Is there a restaurant app like if your going out to eat and want to know the calories of something? I think the Iphone has one and my friend has a similar one on his BB and he had one where you could track what you ate for the day and it would figure out the fat and calories for you and keep a log. What apps are worth paying for? I just did a search for groery list and saw several. One was free and one was paid and they were the same but then I noitced one said lite and the paid for had more features. But I would try the free one 1st. I like how you can scan barcodes and one showed the price on your phone I think?

I have maybe 20-30 apps saved thats all for now. I am used to my TP2 and i have a task manager that in the top corner shows me everything that's open. I can x it out to close it or click on one to make it open. Will the EVO have something like that on there and if not which task manger will do what I want. I hate that there is like several grocery list apps bar code scanner and shop savy. I only want one of each and the best.

My Touch Pro 2 came with a couple games I liked to play one being Bubble Breaker which I found a similar one but the other I can't find Teeter or Teether it's called the labrinyth game where you get the marble in the hole. I am sure there is a similar one for that too but I can't find one. Everyone said get Handcent SMS and one person somewhere else said he liked Chomp SMS. There is just too many Apps. I am ot even going to attempt to install much of anything till I am really familiarized with the phone. I have an HTC now with Sense but know nothing about Android. I really need to go play with the incredible. I love cats too is there any live cat wallpapers or like a petz thing where you adopt a cat LOL! Thanks,

Tell me about it, I believe I have nearly 250 apps saved on my appbrain wishlist o_o.

Granted, I will probably delete a good portion of them, but it'll still be fun to mess around with everything for a while!

Has anyone downloaded the Swype beta for android from www.swypeinc.com when it was available? According the website they had so many downloads they had to close it. I played with the swype app on a friends Omnia 2 and really liked it. Just was wondering if anyone has downloaded onto their android phone and if they liked it or not?
Thanks for any info you have....

I wanted Swype and someone told me they weren't giving it away anymore and about the beta. I wanted to try it. One video stated it came with the phone and an HTC person told me they thought it did too but I am not sure. I watched a video on it. But the HTC rep said that when you had the keyboard open that there was probably a menu option like I have now on my TP2 to change the style keyboard. Except on the EVO it will have a Swype option but I don't know if that is true. Like ow on my phone I have keypad full or compact qwerty. So I guess will see!

someone may have mentioned this already buy score mobile is ok, may just be a blackberry app but if not it should be worth checking out

I just read online yesterday that Score Mobile will be available for Android soon. There was no date, but it sounded very soon...maybe less than a month. I have it on my Blackberry and love it...just going to use something else until it drops. Hope this helps.
