Cannot set a default app to display my pictures

Hello,

Recently I had trouble seeing the photos I made inside my wonderful bookkeeping app BlueCoins. After I made a pic of a bill and wanted to see it, the message was a popup saying
ANDROID SYSTEM KEEPS STOPPING
App Info
Close App

Nothing worked till today. I added another photo app (Google Go, aside existing others such as Photos, Gallery) and now I was given all available options when I clicked a BlueCoin pic. I selected Google Go and it worked. So I tried to set Google Go as my default app for pictures. In settings > apps > Google Go > default > there were NO options to set it.
I found that Photos (by Google) had been set as default picture app. I deleted that default.
But could still NOT set any picture app as default. Options greyed out. Not available.

How come?
What to do?

Thanks for helping!
Wim

And why wouldn't you want to use Google photos? It backs up every single photo to the cloud, free. If your phone ever gets lost or broken, boom! You're SOL without a backup.
Trust Google Cloud! And you can download your photos offline too :) Believe us, saves our black outs, when the phone is dead as well as even, saves when we are in a black out too :)

What is google go? I downloaded a few photo galleries for my default, they seem working excellent - DV Gallery it works wonders, basic app settings click on the "Allow access this to your gallery." Boom there you go.

Google Go is a smaller, more space and memory effecient version of Google, designed for low end devices.
It will still work on better devices.

Think of it as a 'Google Lite'.

Try this...

Open your file manager app and find a photo, any photo.
Tap on it to select it.
If there is no default app set to open the file, a list of available apps to do so will appear and you will be asked to make the decision.

After you do so, and the file is viewed, do this procedure again.
This time, when the list pops up, you should have the option of 'open with always' or 'just once'.

If you select 'always', then that app will now be set as the default.
