Help Do "Add to Home" shortcuts cause apps to background launch??

Hello...

Leading up to my purchase of the new EVO I familiarized myself with some battery-life-saving tips. One of the tips was associated with reducing the number of Widgets on the Home Screen(s) that are pulling data in the background.

QUESTION: if one doesn't use widgets but uses App icons and Shortcuts does the addition of those NON-widget items cause the associated apps to launch by themselves in the background MORE THAN if they were NOT "short-cutted" onto the Home Screen pages??

I'm trying to determine how/what I'm doing that might cause apps to launch in the background when I don't really want them to. I'm using Advanced Task Killer to see what is running in the background and have NO CLUE why some stuff is turning on when they do. A recent LARGE list of running apps that I did NOT turn on coincidentally coincided with some Home Screen short-cut non-widget add-ons I recently placed.

Also, don't stress the widget thing too much. My advice: enjoy your phone, and set it up how you want it. Make it useful for you. Battery life is not a cataclysmic problem on this phone. Personally, I'd rather have a useful, fun, productive setup that I need to charge once a day than a boring, bland, static setup that lasts a day and a half.

AGREED!!! Funny you mention that because my father in law read a post on the internet...I believe it was this post 20 tips to improve HTC EVO 4G battery life or one similar. There was a post that said some guy got his EVO to run without charging for MORE THAN 2 DAYS!! So my father in law started shutting off this and that. Next thing he knew, phone and apps weren't working too well...he was shutting off some CORE functions that you NEED to have on!!

And he AIN'T NO POWER USER!!

I told him, as you did, just use the phone AS YOU WANT...if...IF!!...you run into issues, then you can adjust!!

Unfortunately the battery life on the Evo is a very bad problem.

Between the large display and the messy 4g/ toggling to 3g, the battery life doesn't last long at all.

My friend has one and he's been complaining non stop.

If I were you, unfortunately, I would not use 4g unless absolutely essential. It's just not up to par yet and won't be for at least a year or 2.

Sorry about your friend, but it sounds like he got a defective battery. As an owner of both the EVO and the Incredible, I can say for a fact that the EVO has significantly better battery life than the Incredible. The Incredible was stocked with the worst battery in HTC's inventory, whereas the EVO -- as the premier phone in Android's lineup -- got the best battery.

I suggest that your friend get a replacement unit. I'm sure he will find that his battery issues go away. Or if he wants an excellent Android 2.1/2.2 phone, he can look at the N1. Just tell him to stay away from the Incredible if he has a fear of phones with terrible battery life.

We don't think it's defective.

I have the 1500 mah battery as well ($15 ebay). Put side to side with my friend's EVO, it is a fact that the Incredible has superior battery life.

The 4g is known to drain the battery significantly. It's like giving a hummer a tank of gas and telling it to drive across the country. Bit of a shame.

Mine lasted about 5 hours longer than his.

We attributed it to size of screen, lag, and 4g spotty service.
