Official 4G/WiMAX Coverage Areas

Aloha!

I havent used it that much because it drains my battery way too fast. But I do notice that web pages load faster than on 3g. That is what matters the most to me. It may not be worth the extra load on the battery, but I still feel lucky to have access to 4g.

Below are a few numbers from the SpeedTest app. The odd thing about the downtown test was that I had 3 bars, instead of 1 in central Oahu. The two locations are approximately 14 miles apart. On a side note, I sometimes get faster readings on 3g at these locations.

Downtown Honolulu: 1882 kbps down
Central Oahu: 2316 kpbs down

What are you getting for 3G speeds out in central oahu? My 3G speeds are not that much less than the 4G speeds (about 1-1.5), which IMO is pretty spectacular coming from Tmobile, and fine for my needs.

why did grand rapids get 4g before any other metro detroit city? it still boggles my mind.:(

The City of Grand Rapids contracted out a municipal wireless network for public safety, economic development, etc. and it just so happens they picked the right company: i.e. Clearwire / Sprint :D

If it wasn't for the battle with our Sprint affiliate, iPCS, we'd already be long up and running.

Grand Rapids IMO is the next Metro of Michigan. They are making big strides in improving their city. Also they have one of the largest support for Google Fiber.

Another thing Grand Rapids is doing to make themselves known is holding the Art Prize there I think last year, which was pretty successful.

Anyone here in Michigan knows that Detroit is a dieing city and Grand Rapids is the new metro of Michigan. Every time i make it down there, there is a new building going up.

I have 2 bars of 4G in Down Town Grand Rapids. While I'm at work I use the office WLAN so having 4G coverage isn't that big of a deal for me...it would be much nicer if it stretched to my country club so I could get more work done.

Ran a couple speed tests for you, server in Chicago produced the following,

3.3MB down
1.1MB up

Server in Dallas produced,

3.3MB down
1.0MB up

Very solid streams for mobile broadband...I'd be curious to see what LTE speeds would be???

I'm in GR as well. Can't wait till it covers more area however as I'm @ Forest Hills Ave. and Cascade. We're paying $10 a month for it, should be able to use it in my opinion...

Remember, our 4G isn't even fully turned on yet. According to the GR wireless website, it will cover more than just the downtown area. From FAQs:
6. I saw East Grand Rapids was listed as a 'partner' in this project. Does this mean that the WiMax service will be available to residents of EGR?

The city expects the WiMAX network to cover a much larger region than Grand Rapids city limits, including EGR and other surrounding communities. WiMAX service will be available to residents and businesses.

drove down colfax on my way to brunch today. i did get a fleeting 4g signal (Sprint, and it assigned me an IP even) by Colfax & Logan. I thought it'd be stronger downtown. nope. no 4g signal at all downtown. no clue where the tower is then...

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you. I had 4G coverage as I waited in line this weekend at Comedy Works.

Its Official!!

Sprint 4G WiMAX network in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Kansas City

I just turned on my 4G Antenna on my EVo at my job and I have a full 5 bar 4G signal:D

I did the speed test and came in at 3.6 down... Thats a far cry from "10x faster than 3G" but i definitely noticed.

Anyone in DC get anythin faster than 3.6 meg download??

Also... I definitely noticed a faster battery drain even in sleep mode

Just turned on my 4G and getting 2 circular bars and 5 straight bars under 4G (not sure how it all correlates with regards to signal strength) out here in Arlington (Ballston area). Awesome.
