HTC Incredible VS. Droid X

Incredible vs. this, Incredible vs. that. Who really cares? If you are happy with your Incredible, enjoy it. If not, look into the X or another phone. I swear some people are never happy and are always looking for "perfection" which they will never find.
i dont think anyone is looking for the "perfect" phone.. but like you said, if you like the incredible then stick with it, if your a gadget freak like myself switch to the X.. simple as that

not to hijack the thread but I held my work landlord's new evo today. it was big and nice. The screen was easy to read, but IT WAS HEAVVVYYYY! I was shocked at that. That's a factor. I assume the d2 and x will be heavy too.

I do have to admit I am a bit surprised ,based on your avatar, that you would have a problem with the weight of the device  Maybe we can find you a sling or a nice purse? :p

How could that blog even think that Moto would put a snap in this? Moto and TI are bed buddies in regards to hardware. There was never going to be a snap in this puppy and was shown with the 3630 several months ago at a tech show.

My only issue with the Moto devices is why do they stick to the odd display dimensions? This is one of the causes of fragmentation and then you get Moto owners crying about apps not looking correct.

OKY Mik0r. We don't condone piracy.

At this point, I think I'll get the Droid X when it comes out. From I what I see, Motorola Droids have quicker OS updates than HTC. They already have Froyo for the old Droid.

Also, there are niggly things about the DINC that bother me and I envy of my friends who has the older Droid (that don't have the issues I have w. my DINC).

You condone rooting but not piracy? Pretty much the same area IMHO.

I too have many issues with my DI but VZW is sending me a new one tomorrow. I'll give the new one a try and then exchange it for the DX if I'm still not happy with it. I've been an HTC fan since the PPC6700.

To the guy asking how to upgrade early, if you're within 30 days of purchase you can cancel your contract with no penalty. If you're not you can call VZW and complain about the issues DI has and they will terminate your contract without penalty like they did for me.

Also I've heard snapdragon processor can't be overclocked passed 1.2Ghz, I know the regular Droid can be overclocked to 1Ghz, so hopefully this new TI processor can be overclocked to 1.5Ghz or more. As a bonus the X comes standard with a 1550mAh battery.

What kind of pants are people wearing that they cant fit a 4.3" phone in their pocket?

Why are people comparing Sense to the old Blur... The Moto Blur has been redone and it's much better. Don't knock it till you try it,

Also with Android being the easiest OS to pirate software on, why couldn't one just make a sense APK and install it on other phones.

4.3 is the screen size.

Sense will 100% obliterate any rendition of Blur we will ever see. Of course thats subjective to the presence of common sense.

And people have wanted Sense on their MotoDroids for a very long time now and if they can't even get it built into a Rom then there is no way you are going to see it in apk form anytime soon. Sense is system wide, not just a simple home screen replacement. We've got developers falling over themselves just trying to mimic the clock...

NinjaBlur may be better then we expect but there is no way its going to directly compete with HTC's SenseUI. UI is HTC's forte, that certainly cannot be said about Motorola....

Would the sales reps look at me funny if I go to the Verizon store and put the Droid X demo phone in my pocket?

From: Exclusive: Motorola Droid X preview -- Engadget
In hand, the phone feels really solid and we were surprised at how light it felt, though we could really do without the hump on the back. And yes, the large thing fits in a jean pocket, but not without slightly bulging.
Doesn't give a weight comparison to the EVO though.

I suspect this might even be heavier than the EVO considering Moto's reputation to build brick-like phones and the metal body. I don't think its necessarily a bad thing.. worth it if it adds durability.

I think its moreso the fact that this phone is being released so close to Incred on top of many other people being stuck in a strange area where they're still on back-order. Makes the phone less attractive if you haven't even gotten your hands on it and you already hear announcements about a new phone.

Luckily I obtained my phone really easily and had it about the second week of its release. Admittedly, even my interests in the X increase as I read more about it. It mostly boils down partially a size thing and the speculation of X's improved processor. While I like the size of my Incred, sometimes I do wish the screen was just a little bigger when I'm browsing. The X however.. I think the size is fine naked... but I can only imagine how bad it'll be once you slap a protective case on that sucker. That thing naked is probably about the same size as most Incred's with a case on, seeing a side by side comparison really shows that its really not THAT much bigger than the Incred. Ofcourse I'd have to hold it in my hands before I can really judge.

If I wasn't on a family plan and didn't have another line eligible for a free/discounted phone, I wouldn't even consider the X.. but seeing how I can do a phone juggle and sell my Incred if needed plus come out with a slight profit (I got my Incred for $130) does make it a more viable option for me.

In case anyone missed the size comparison... here it is.

How is rooting the same issue as piracy?? I bought the device, I will root it until the cows come home- nah, the cows can come home and I will still root it. Rooted my G1, but see no reason ATM to root the Inc. Does what I need it to :)

Still, saying that rooting = piracy deserves triple :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Sorry, rooting and piracy are not even in the same zip code.

Piracy = obtaining software illegally and for free that you would otherwise have to pay for.

Rooting = gaining full administrative rights to something you already own.

How anyone can even compare them is beyond me.

Agreed with above.. thats like saying running Bootcamp on a Mac = piracy... or even switching out your original hardware. Its definitely not the same thing.

Piracy is the equiv of software stealing, taking away money from developers who created software that was intended to be sold.

Update: Just saw on X's conference.. looks like its official.. the X is on OMAP and not SnapDragon. Admittedly, I was secretly hoping it was SnapDragon so there'd be less of a reason to consider trading my Inc for X.

Modifying the software to gain access to features which were not intended. Hows that different from installing software on a phone which it was not intended for (Sense UI on Droid X).

I'm sure it can and will be done. Just like rooting, it only takes time.

So all I'm saying is you condone the voiding of ones warranty and possibly other side effects down the road. Just like mod chipping a XBOX 360 and instantly getting banned on XBOX live. It's easy to tell which phones are rooted and which are not and send out an OTA which may negativity impact those which are rooted.

Because if you're modifying the software to take in software it wasn't intended to be used on isn't directly linked to using software you didn't pay for. Now, if you root your phone and use pirated software on it as a result of it.. then yes, it officially becomes the same. However, if you root the phone and use software that is free or software you otherwise paid for but couldn't use on it before.. its different.

100% correct!

Modifying something you own is your right!
Stealing something that costs money is illegal!
Period, end of sentence!

EDIT: I should also mention, modifying software you own to access something, whether that something is intended or not is not the same as piracy!

In that case you bought the device which came with Sense UI for free. It's yours you can package it and do what you want with it.

same area != same thing

Removing city ID and other battery eating apps is reason enough to root the DI. Runs faster and lasts longer.

So your saying its ok to buy a vista laptop and then make pirated copies of the OS and hand out to all your friends because its yours to do with as you please? WRONG!

My two cents: if I was looking to get a new Verizon phone, and the Incredible and X were both out, I don't know which I'd choose. I'd probably go play with them in a store and decide.

That said, I have an Incredible, and I'm not looking to upgrade every 3 months when a new phone with slightly better specs comes out. The advantages I see of the X aren't killer ones (to me), so I'm not going to shell out another couple hundred bucks to stay on the bleeding edge, just to have to repeat the cycle again in a few months.

As awesome as it would be to always have the newest phone, it's not worth the financial punch I would take ($800+ a year, assuming you stay faithful to a single carrier), nor is it worth the frustration of just finally getting comfortable with your phone before you have to replace it.

I have a hard time understanding anyone who upgrades from the Incredible to the X, not because the specs aren't [slightly] better, but because they couldn't have had the Incredible for more than a few months yet.
