Moving back to iPhone...

Wish people wouldnt get so personal about this. Consumer choice is fantastic. Its win.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if which smartphone to buy is our biggest worry in life then I think we can all count ourselves pretty lucky. Anyone who disagrees should probably read the news once in a while and take note with regards to what is happening in Pakistan right now.

Next time you buy a washing machine, buy a zanussi or I'll kill and/or disown you. Don't touch that Hotpoint crap its for fanbois and kids.

I agree with this dude - the Android app market is of a laughable quality. Sure, in terms of quantity, everythings rapidly catching up but the actual quality of the apps are TERRIBLE. There are only 3 or so apps which managed to keep me entertained but the iPhone has the best app market and has games by some proper developers than some newbie coders whos games feel very crappy. Dont take me wrong, I love android but it kinda kills the point of having a smartphone if you cant get good apps.

Not all apps are designed to keep you entertained. There are tonnes of good apps, just not in the category you specifically are looking for by the sounds of it.

I have found enough apps to keep me entertained so far, but you probably would not like them. Poke a mole, Find-it-Family guy I'm playing a lot of. But I don't want a phone to play games on, I want to play games when I need to kill a bit of time and I'm bored of the internet. If I want to game, I have a 360. The app marketplace seems to have many options for SMS, browsers, power control, data management etc. This was my reason for going with android, full control of how my phone did its job as a communication device.

I agree it has issues. I can't get the facebook app right now, nore can I get tasker, 2 of the apps I really wanted, because my hero is running 1.5. Lucky for me I still have 4 days to return the phone and I can now get a desire, which will be in my hands by 8pm tonight if all goes according to plan!

From a developer perspective it is really pretty easy to design an app for any flavour of android.

When you set up your dev environment you choose which platform you are aiming for. The rest is, as the meerkat says, seeemples........

IF you want a phone to play games on, the PSP phone is coming out in a few months.....At a guess I'd say the iPhones reign at number one in the gaming phone charts is soon to be over

Another point re. games is that no touchscreen is ever going to be good for all types of games. We have lots of games that rely on the accelerometer in some way, while others are purely down to touch.

It does limit the type of games you can play, and for simple puzzle type games, there are plenty of games on Android.

iOS has some very innovative games designed for touch (I love Angry Birds and PvZ is great too) but until we get a phone with some sort of keypad (such as this rumoured PSP phone) then we won't realise the full potential. Games designed for touch are one thing, but I'd quite like games with traditional D-pads and 'fire' buttons.

And, the good thing is we may get these to satisfy the gamers, while those that don't care for games can get something without those buttons. It's another plus for Android - choice. Whatever Apple does next will be a one-size-fits-all effort, which limits them greatly.

Also, I don't know how many people would agree with me but since I have had smartphones with high-speed data connectivity, I now find myself not playing games in my 'down time' but surfing the net, using apps that are in some way connected online, reading email, facebook, streaming video and so on. I like the odd game, but I really do play them for a VERY short time.

I'm also watching videos when commuting. Obviously I can do that on my iPhone too - but I prefer the easy drag & drop method on Android over using iTunes.

When the market is overwhelmed with great apps and games, just look over the last month official ebay app, official sky remote record app etc have come out, angry birds days away, you will have missed the boat, stay with your ios4, and stay restricted, that's your choice, you are the android my friend, and joining the now less popular race of the same breed of I phoners, who want a device that is, well old hat now, and fixed at doing one thing, welcome to your 2010 gameboy, the I phone!

Why anyone would want to be restricted with the things they can do with their device is beyond me ,had an Ipod touch once ,like borrowing someone else kit but still having to pay in full.
I read this week that they still want to make jailbreaking an offence even though us courts say its not ,and they want to be able to brick your phone if you take the sim card out, they ought to run their empire from North Korea.

I just got my Desire 3 days ago and I am new to the Android OS, and for a while I was decided on buying an iPhone (it wasn't until 3 weeks ago I changed my mind.)

One of the reasons I went for Android is because it is a new competitor to Apple.

Sure the Market might be a bit flaky, and some of the apps aren't of the standard of the Apple App Store, but it can only get better? Especially with the rate that Android is growing it seems that more established apps are making their away over to the Market like the eBay and Sky+ apps. So surely that shows the Market isn't just full of nerdy developers?
