Ok so imo wasting bandwidth is a terrible act in this day and age. Yes I'm talking to you sitting at home browsing the forums on your phone but not on wifi but 3G. Am I the only one paranoid about this? I think you should use wifi whenever available because if 50 guys hog all the bandwidth watching youtube over 3G while they are at home with wifi and 1 guy riding the bus can't check his email is that fair? Let me know what you guys think on the matter.

The more we use the more the carriers need to improve the system. WIFI is for those can't afford a data plan or minutes. In this day and age, we have the ability to provide anyone with the resources to decide on their own. No car, take the bus, no internet package, use wifi.

I'll continue to use 3G, in the hopes that we'll get 4G soon, or go to 5G. US needs to catch up to Japan Speed.

I can afford a car and a data plan. But I prefer the bus/ train and think wifi should be available to all.
I'm not really sure what your point is.

The ops comment I believe is coming from the artificial bandwidth crunch major carriers are complaining about. Much like the oil crisis in the 70's. There was no shortage of oil then, and there is no bandwidth crunch now. Companies need to keep updating and upgrading anyway, to stay competitive, not because there is a bandwidth crunch. They want everyone to believe that so they can charge large amounts of money for data plans. Let's face it, the casual data user doesn't use a fraction of the data they actually pay for, and even the heaviest of users, they still cut a profit from, no matter how thin. As for 4G it is already here in chicago, I remember when all this 3G craze and media hype began, LOL. 3G had been around for years already, and it was just a marketing scheme. Sprint had thier 3G network nationwide as early as 2002!!! Thats 7 years ago LOL! And everyone makes fun of Sprint, but they had led the way in mobile innovation in the states for the last two decades, and now with WiMax 4G, they are leading us into a new decade of mobile greatness. My hats off to them.

Agreed. The whole 3G advertisment is a little crazy. Japan has had a solid UMTS network for almost 10 years now no big deal hell they never had GSM, if more consumers knew that they would be up in arms in the US. Also notice how all the verizon/sprint phones don't say "Ev" but instead "3G"? More marketing! But back to my original point over loading a network is not cool at all. Verizon hasn't really had any issues YET but look at at&t....they are a mess. The only way to persuade customers to use wifi when available is to stop having unlimted data plans. Look at the rest of the world for example. Just my opioion though

Google makes more money from ads the more people use the internet. The other platforms don't have this revenue model so it hurts them if more people use the internet.

btw who browses from their phone at home? Isn't that what pc's are for?

I actually do lol but I use wifi. My phone loads up quicker than my laptop and the more I use my phone the more familar ill be with it. And I don't get what you mean in your first sentence....

My phone is always in my pocket. My laptop may be in another room, in my car, out of battery, or I may be in my kitchen and not have the laptop-safe (away from water, other liquids, splattering cooking oil, and raw meat) counter space for it. If it's something quick and dirty, like a recipe, email, or showing someone a quick Youtube, the phone is just too easy.

Google wants more people to use more internet because they make money from all the internet ads. They can then compensate the carriers for the bandwidth so they don't end up cracking like AT&T
Nobody else can do this except Microsoft, which is missing the boat completely (even WinMo users use Opera or some other non-IE browser)

Can you explain this more?

Agreed (Not particularly a Sprint fanboy) but I concur.
