Will THIS replace your Droid?

Sounds like a sweet phone...... It'll have to be rootable for me to buy one and if data is tiered I'm hosed.

Well, if it's coming as soon as the article is saying, I'd say it probably wouldn't be 4G. VZ 4G network still needs a lot of work, but idk. If it's 3G you can just keep your current (unlimited) plan and upgrade to the Tegra (assuming it's any good). For me, it would have to be vanilla android with froyo, and rootable. I need to be able to remove all the bloatware that will surely come on it :/

If it keeps the Droid hardware form factor (physical keyboard) like the D2 did, then I will definitely get it so I don't have to buy all new accessories for it too :D. Even if it don't though, I will prolly get it. I'll be due for an upgrade by then. My Droid has served me well, but it's definitely starting to show its age with all the apps I have one it and constant redrawing still (even after doing the local.prop memory fix), it's getting old having to do all these optimizations just to keep it responsive.

I woulda been more excited about the Droid 2 if it had vanilla android... But yeah, I bet by the time this thing hits the shelves I'll be rdy for an upgrade. I don't really care if it has a keyboard or not. I still want something new. o_O My Droid is very unresponsive (I know it's the price I pay for having a custom froyo rom, but I can't live without froyo - but it was a lot better when I was on a custom 2.1 ROM) but anyways, I'm sick of waiting 5 secs for the homescreen to load and constant lag. I could OC but I need battery life as it is. I feel like my Android experience would be a lot better with an updated phone :)

A lot of the same things as mentioned in this thread.

Rootability.
Vanilla Android / No MotoBLAH / SenseUI wannabe crap....
No protected bootloaders disallowing custom ROMs.

If it aint' got that, I may not get a new phone.

AMEN. haha I used to be about the keeping up with the Joneses life but I have slowed down since and this Droid is just too amazing. Except for the keyboard. I could definitely live without a keyboard as long as I have swype and a 4 inch screen.

I think a good idea would be to somehow convince motorola, htc, samsung, etc. that they need to make their phones well and customizable enough that we wouldn't need to root them. Saves the hassle of being worried about bricks, voided warranties, user error. If this new phone has 1.3 ghz I don't really see a need to root as long as it has the features I want and need. As long as Verizon doesn't charge 20 dollars a month for these features.

I guarantee (esp. for Motorola) that every phone since the Droid and now on will have a locked/protected boot loader. So I guess you'll be hanging on to your Droid until it's dead and totally obsolete, heh.

Fortunately, protected boot loaders only delay the inevitable and will be unlocked (thanks to .xda devs) eventually as the Droid X was. Once that happens, the rest of your concerns will be alleviated. All I care about is root so I can uninstall unwanted software that carriers are forcing on us with all the new phones now. That and wireless tethering, heh.
