Verizon is buying back Eris's for $132

I'm sure not but that is a good question. My mail-in envelope should be in my box today if not already. I'll let you know when I get the instructions. (Or maybe someone else who has sent it back can answer.)

i was told that i could keep the sd card, which was great as the Dinc i got only had a 2GB. I'm unsure of the wall charger, but i think you can keep that as well. i should be getting the envelope either today, or Monday, so i'll post to let you know if it says otherwise.

As long as you are both eligible for an upgrade, that is correct. One of my two lines is eligible for the upgrade, so I can't get the free phone. Think I'll stick with the Eris for a few more months.

Ran into the same problem here... I went over to Verizon right when it opened and they told me that only the primary line could do an early upgrade so I couldn't get the BOGO. It sucks because we both got our phone on the same day so basically we'll have to wait for our new every 2.
Went over to the verizon store at the mall afterward and they told me they could open a new line and with a promo they're running they wouldn't charge me the $9.99 for the 3rd (new) line and then I could cancel my data plan on my existing phone and add a data line on the third phone. Sounded complicated and on top of that would have had to get a new number.

I'm very bummed.

I would check into this a little more. It has been my understanding that everyone on the account is eligible for an early upgrade if a year has passed. I don't want to give false info though. Need to get jreed or another who works in CS to confirm this.

what ever happens, I'll bet your account gets extended 2 more years from the day of transaction, right? The two year contract plan sux!! Cell phones should be like house phones, no lock in contract.

There is no mention of the contract being extended in the terms and conditions. I'm thinking of picking up another Eris off CraigsList for $70 and trading it in. I'll let you all know how it goes...

I saw this posting and jumped all over it. Like Caddyman, I was able to get into a DX for $68. Caddyman is right, the DX is a beast. I enjoyed the Eris and would have stuck with it if it weren't for the dialer lag issue. Somehow the phone knew when I needed to make a call the most and would choose those times to do the lag thing. I was just screwing up my courage to root the thing when I saw the $132 deal. Glad I'll be seeing Caddyman over on the DX forum. He always has good advise.

Just to be pedantic, how long is the lag between when your phone gets sent in and you get your rebate check? I wouldn't be able to go buy a new phone until I had the gift card in my hand, but I have no idea what I'd do in the meantime for a cell phone.

what happened in my case, was that they charged the cost of the phone to my account, and then when the gift cards come in, they can just be applied to the account. rep said the cards should be here in about 2weeks.

I just talked to someone in the Trade-In department and they said that the $132 is the starting price. Depending on the condition they'll give you less for it. If they're only going to give you $20 for it you can't say never mind and get it sent back. There are some dings on my phone so I'm on the fence now about sending it back. Has anyone actually received $132?

Did the term of your contract start the day you got your new phone at the V store or was it your original contract date?

I hate the two year contract and I think this is a way for V to extend your contract, buy giving you a new phone. Its a marketing ploy to keep customers. Mabey some people don't care, and if you plan on staying with V its probably a good deal to get a new phone pretty cheap. but I'm courious about the contract. Every time I go into the story people are trying to get out of, upgrade or have problems with the darn contract. Cell phones should be like house phones, no contract.

I better get the full $132 b/c I used my "Verizon Cert reberb phone" for like 3 hrs until I switched to Sprint and the Evo.

That's not how they presented the offer...that's false advertising!!!

I've already paid for new phones(on eBay) expecting to decrease the costs of them by $132 a piece...

I got the full $132. My eris was in very good condition. I had gotten a refurb in August due to trackball issues and had a phantom skin on it, so it wasn't that old. I unrooted before I sent it back and kept the battery and sd card.

I got the verizon gift card in the mail. I thought it would be like the rebate gift cards that you can use anywhere, but this card is just good on verizon online or store purchases. I had already purchased my new phone so I couldn't use it towards that. I'm currently contemplating putting it towards my monthly bill or treating myself to a 32G sd card.

I signed up for the $132 trade in last Monday. On Thursday I received the envelope and I put the phone in the mail on Friday. Today I received an e-mail saying I would receive the full $132.

My phone had no scratches or damage of any kind. I had the screen protector and always used a case/holster. I guess buying those things paid off.
