[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

A German website, HTCInside, leaked these HTC Thunderbolt specs: (Rumored)

  • 4.3-inch touchscreen, 16.78 million colors.
  • Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread.
  • Qualcomm MSM8960 dual-core processor 1.2GHz.
  • 8-megapixel camera (primary).
  • 5-megapixel camera (secondary).
  • Hotspot capable.
  • GPS, aGPS.
  • 1080p Full HD video recording and playback.
  • GSM / Quad Band | GPRS / EDGE / 3G / HSPA / LTE.
  • Wi-Fi 2.11 b / g / n.
  • Kickstand.
  • Bluetooth.
  • 16GB Internal Memory | Expansion per 128GB microSDXC.
  • Battery 1800mAh.

You're all arguing about whether this list is true or not simply because of the mention of dual core? did any of you see 128GB microSD, 1800mAH, 5 MP front cam or 2.3? This list is completely ridiculous. In fact, the mention of a dual core is probably the most realistic spec on it.

It's pointless to ask? I disagree completely. AND I never said I would skip on anything, just would rather have better battery stock then dual core. It's just my PREFERENCE. If after release they determine that dual is better for battery life then I'm down with that.
Either way yay for technical progress

It is pointless because there have been, basically, no real advancements in battery technology. It's like saying you'd rather get a dragon for your birthday instead of a horse. The point is, better battery technology does not exist yet, dual core mobile processors do. And dualies have already been tested to be better for battery life than currently available singles. LG star already has a dual core and is doing great.

First, that reply of mine that you quoted wasn't to a mod. Secondly, he made a statement and I asked where he read that, because that wasn't a rumor that I've read. Some mods chose to direct certain things to me, when I never initiated any of my comments to a mod....and that's fine if they choose to.

Infact, it was a mod who initiated a comment to me and said, "Read the article. It will only be a requirement for TABLETS." Even though that is just as much speculation as what I had already said.

That wasnt a rumor you read? What was it? It was absolutely not fact. It obviously has a very good chance of being true. But, to say it isnt rumor is not right.

From Android Central:
But it is entirely possible that Enspert managing director Bobby Cha misspoke or was referring to recommended minimum requirements -- not a hard line between whether hardware will actually run Gingerbread or not. We all know that hardware well past its prime will run current Android software.

Those specs are not even close. It's not dual core, the FFC is only 1mp, it's only running 2.2.1 (right now at least), it's not quad band (only CDMA/700mhz LTE)...

As for release dates, probably end of Feb/early March at the very soonest. Based off testing so far, I'd lean towards later.

NKT, how do you know this? I know your information is always highly regarded. Just curious. On another note if this thing doesn't come out until March April and doesn't have dual core, I have to say that is a big fail. If it was coking out this month, it might be ok but the later it comes out the worse it is. If it is single core I'm sorry the marketing does not match the product. Maybe for the masses, not for the knowledgable.

Sources cannot be divulged but that's all the info I have right now.

I'll state this again regarding dual cores: Why is it a fail if the Thunderbolt doesn't come with one? If it's running a fast single core and performs as people expect it to, who cares? What requirement is there right now to have a dual core in a phone?

Trust me, I'm a gadget geek, but I really don't see the necessity for a dual core at this time. To call it a failure without even seeing it in action is quite premature, in my opinion.

I'm off to put on my flame-******ant suit

Completely agree. I am a tech junkie as well, I could care less if it had dual core.

Yes, but the 1.2ghz dual core is absolute, since none exist (not in mass by any OEM until 4th quarter this year). Either the device is 1.2ghz, or it is a 1ghz dual core. Could still be neither.

I thought the same way until having the Tegra 2 for two months. Flash and game performance destroy my Snapdragon Inc and the Droid X. Flash sites that choke on them are smooth as butter on my Gtablet and 3D games like Dead or Alive, Tekken 3 or NBA Live are juddery messes on those devices, but smooth as butter on the Gtablet.

Tegra 2 is the real deal. My Inc will be my device until a dual core arrives. Either this device has a Tegra 2 or it is a single core. Even Samsung are ordering Tegra 2 for their premium devices and Galaxy Tab 2.

Also took time to test the Droid 2 with 1.2ghz. It performs about 20% better than the Inc and Droid X, but same results with heavier Flash sites and PSX games. Tegra 2 spanks them all and has great battery life, in spite of the performance.

First off, thats a HORRIBLE analogy... your comparing a mythical creature to better battery technology... really?
And thats great news for the LG star but that news does nothing for me. And while I don't think it's pointless for me to wish for advancements in battery tech i will concede that it prolly won't happen soon. But I'll take ANYTHING that optimizes battery life, thats what i really meant.

I agree completely, hell would love a phone with better built in memory(ram/rom, flash) and throw the biggest battery possible and i'm on it. While we agree that those specs are just a tad ridiculous the one that excited me the most was the inclusion of a 1800mah battery stock

Did I say it was fact? Actually I said that both sides were speculation.

Hey NKT,

Since you have stated that the Thunderbolt will not be using the advanced technology of dual core processors, can we mark that down in the confirmed column?

And to the rest of you who disagreed with me, I didn't come in here to argue as most of you believe. I came in the thread to get info. I actually much prefer HTC devices to ANY other manufacturer, and I believed the hype of what they said, "Its not your dream phone, it's the one after that". I'm sure that this will be a great phone, because all of my HTC devices, including my Incredible were great phones. However, whether you are ok with having a single core processor or not, it would make more "Sense", that Dual core processors would be better performers, as with technological advances, things usually get better, not stay the same. Also, it does make "Sense" that when you have more advanced technology, that opens the possibilities for it to take advantage of newer software, apps, etc. The competitors are in fact using the advanced technology, so that makes it even more disappointing for me. When I buy a new device, I want the best specs and tech for my money since this is a 2 year contract that we are talking about.

However, as I said before, I'm sure that this will be a great phone, and I look forward to hearing more about it, because the wife might be getting this one.

Yep, I completely agree, it will make it worse for it to come out later, with more advanced hardware coming out around that time or before that time. "Sense" it has a single core processor, it would be wise to get this out at least a month before the phones with dual cores are available.

It is, but it was becoming an argument that indeed was going off topic in regards to whether or not this phone (which is not even out yet) would be getting Honeycomb (again not even out yet) and /or Dual Processor?

I am not by any means saying you can not discuss openly, however when jabs keep going back and forth on fictional or guesstimating he said she said, its time to move on.

I am just trying to avoid this becoming a thread like the pre-release Inc thread where you had to sift through arguments on speculated info.

Feel free to create a thread that discusses a certain subject and you can chat all day.

We do not have to have "like" minds, but we can at least be organized. And in my opinion the thread was starting to head in direction that I felt needed to be put back on track.

According to Quadrant it's Arm v7 @ 1024.

Basically it's the same processor as the MyTouch 4G, just with CDMA added (8655 vs. 8255).

Ouch, ok. lol With this being confirmed. I'm wondering what makes this the phone "AFTER" your dream phone, as HTC claims? It's using the same processor as a phone that came out in October of last year, with the same clock speed of a phone that came out in January of last year; it does have a front facing camera, but the Evo had that earlier last year, so because it has LTE, that alone makes this the phone "AFTER" your dream phone? I'm curious as to what makes having an Evo for Verizon, 6 months or longer after the original Evo came out, so special?

NKT,

Can you answer this? Is there something else that makes this a better than a "Dream phone"?

Depends on what your dream phone is... ;)
