Help htc sync can't find my phone

Not sure which one of these suggestions fixed the propblem but after doing all as below, all OKAY at last:

1) Manually copy the drivers from the HTC folder to system32
2) HTC Settings > Applications > Development > "Stay Awake" ticked
3) EXIT Outlook on PC
4) On PC - Start HTC Sync and minimise
5) Shutdown HTC
6) Plug in USB cable to PC
7) Start up HTC

WAIT... HTC Sync started automatically and ran successfully :) YAY!!!!!!:):):):):):):)

As a recent (2 weeks ago) purchaser of a "Desire" I'm disappointed to see that this thread has now been runing for 13 months and I've just encountered the same problem. HTC Sync worked the first time I used it, then cut out half way through the next time I tried to use it. I've got XP pro and Office 2007, SP3 and am trying to sync with outlook for my calendar.

I've tried everything suggested in the forum, so far, with no success. Done 2 uninstalls, tried the version 3 software and so on. Even tried different ports on my laptop. It seems clear the Sync software is so unstable that it cannot function in a "normal" environment since some of the comments suggest that the phone's own apps can have an adverse effect.

Having now seen the history on this forum I'll be returning my phone to my supplier under the "Sale of Goods Act" as it is clearly not capable of doing what it is advertised to do. Perhaps if we all did this then HTC would take the complaints more seriously?

Yesterday (Nov 8, 2010) I was successful in resolving my issues of HTC Sync not finding my phone by upgrading to the newest release of the software, 3.0.5481. I have an HTC Desire and am in the US. After repeated failures with version 2.0.40 (despite all the standard tips from HTC and several from this thread), I was surprised and pleased when the latest version worked the first time without any intervention on my part. I don't know if this will help anyone else, but when you have nothing to lose, why not give it a try?

Does this new release...

Fix the issue of not running on more than one PC?
Fix the contact email address corruption issue?

Hey everyone, I'm new on this but just wanted to say what worked for me...

So...I spent probably 3-4 hours going through all the threads here and uninstalling and reinstalling HTC Sync, rebooting computer and phone, killing abd processes, going into msconfig and closing programs, switching USB ports, going through the entire troubleshooting of the thread someone posted from HTC, got frustrated and went to bed. When I woke up I remembered that the first time I hooked up the phone to my computer it said "Adobe Air" couldn't be installed and I didn't think anything of it. When I opened android market on my phone I searched for the Adobe Air app on my phone and installed it that way instead. After installing I plugged it into my computer and sure enough that was "my" issue. hopefully this helps someone else out there and saves them the frustration that I went through. For the record I'm also running Windows 7 as well.

All in all, I think this Android forum is GREAT and glad there's something like this out there to help me in a bind with future issues. Thanks everyone! :D

Great thread! Spent hours trying to work out why phone would initially see sync programme on the pc and show as connected, and then a few seconds later disconnect. In my case it turned out to be that an external back up device on my pc (running "BounceBack") was conflicting with Sync. I turned off BounceBack and hey presto - Sync works fine. So it seems that my solution is to switch off my auto backup whenever I want to sync my phone. Not a great solution, but at least it works and only takes one click to achieve. Hope this may save someone hours of their time.

Thanks for your post. I'd spent hours reading posts until I found yours. Yes, "BounceBack" was the culprit. Once locked, everything seemed to work...

Hi fellas !
I've just bought a Desire Z and I installed the htc sync that came with it,I had some problems connecting my phone to the pc like many others here but my main issue is that when I run the htc sync, there's just 2 options available,"synchronize now" and "sync manager". shouldn't be a third option as "application installer" there ?! how am i supposed to install my apps then ?
and how to copy my photos , videos and ... to the phone in the htc sync mode ?

Hopefully someone else'll reply with more knowledge but 1) are you referring to non-market apps? Back when my HTC Sync window was actually showing I don't recall any install apps option. 2) Not sure how you move files when in HTC Sync - mine died before I got to try that. When you've got your Z linked to your computer change the connection setting e.g. on the Z from HTC Sync to Disk drive. Your phone's folders should show up in an external drive on your computer.

thnx bro!
yeah,non-market ones. I think I read it somewhere that there should be a third option as well. so I just copy the apk files to my device and run them in order to install them ?

:D Wow! Got a bit fed up trying loads of stuff and no luck........until i left my phone plugged into the pc, turned the phone off and on again, whilst still connected, and hey presto; all is working fine now!
Hope it turns out to be this simple for others.

Genius... just spent 3 hours trying solutions from every thread out there and this was the one that finally worked!

I am having these problems, too.
HTC Desire HD 2 weeks old. Loaded HTC synch to laptop then, worked perfectly. Transferred music to new phone etc.
2 weeks later, try to connect phone to HTC synch...'no device connected' even though phone says 'connected' and claims to be synching. Message window on laptop says HTC synch is updating library - that message just hangs on my laptop forever doing nothing.
Tried:
reboots of phone and laptop.
different USB ports.
Am on debugging.
antivirus switched off (had to when I loaded software, so thought i'd try it).
Outlook closed.

Now at end of my tether (and Richard Hammond has just come on my TV, pushing me over the edge!).

Please help before I kill my phone.

I tried pretty much everything suggested above but nothing worked. What I found was when I was in the apps2sd app I was looking at the apps on my phone and there was HTC Sync, I uninstalled that then reconnected to all up and let it reinstall it and it now works.

I found HTC synch there, but was scared to uninstall it, so did a force-stop. Hey presto, HTC synch recognised my phone, but alas, would not do any thing other than that :-( But hey, it's a start!
