How do I get my eris swapped out with a different phone?

Been awhile since I posted. Anyways I bought my Eris in March replacing an ENV Touch which I sold to a friend. I have had 3 Eris with the trackball problem. Each time I go to the Verizon store they swap it out for a refurb, which works for a couple months before it develops the issue. Last week the replacement phone they gave me has a distorted earpiece. Im so done with this phone, I wish Id ponied up for the Droid last year/ waited for the Incredible. not only is the eris slow, but it is defective in that the trackball is a Ticking time bomb. I know other's have gotten verizon to give them different phones. How many p.o.s. eris did you go through before they did that. My warranty is up soon, so I want to have this resolved because i can't upgrade til summer. I use my trackball a lot, especially in the winter (I use it to dial numbers with gloves on)

Sell it back to them for $132 and put that towards a new one, that's about all you can do unless you opted to pay for the phone insurance.

Or just bitch and moan to a rep in the store, mention that you can get a discount with a competitor through your or a family members work and say after all the trouble you've had with this phone you're thinking of paying the early contract breaking fee and hopping over to them.

They can make up the cost of the new phone they give you to keep you in a few months. Unless you get the rep from hell they'll usually cave to an extent to keep you from going to a competitor.

Where did you send your email to? My Eris runs great, granted its rooted and running CELB 4.0, but it is a refurbed unit and whoever refurbed it put the screen on crappily and now I have dust particles underneath the screen. That would seem like it is a small issue, but it's extremely annoying in the sunlight and I'm getting rapidly tired of it.

Sorry for hijacking your topic but i'm having the same problem. I'm up for a early upgrade on a 2 yr. contract on the eris and i'm trying to upgrade to the Dinc on a 1 yr. contract so that i'm not locked with the same phone for 20 months. I contacted Verizon over the phone and they said i have to upgrade on a 2 yr. contract. Anyway to convince them to allow me to upgrade on a 1 yr. contract?

I'm not sure, but you may have to wait for the contract you are on to be done. I would ask them why you have to be two year.

The other thing, of course, is to ask if you can pay the ETF and then reup with a one year contract. That's probably expensive, though - $350 minus $10 for every month you have been on contract.

Or you can buy a phone full price and not re-up the contract.

The other week, I called in both my daughter and my Eris's for the trackball issue at the same time. Verizon gave my daughter a D2 and because I have "only" turned my phone in for trackball twice (hers was turned in three times), now on my third, I get another Eris. I am sure that within 90 days, my trackball will be crap.

I guess Verizon is not very consistent.

I just got off of the phone with tech support again. My daughter's 3rd Eris refurb was activated last night and we didn't know until today that it could not receive calls or texts until we couldn't make an outgoing call. When we did get to tech support, we could hardly hear because of the buzzing in the earpiece. Although she was on her 3rd refurb, only 2 were for trackball issues. All 4 phones have had bad problems with lag, dropped calls, black screen, etc. I asked her how many we had to go through before they would let us change models. She said she could offer us an Incredible because it was HTC. She also is sending us a new battery and cover and a set of screen protectors. Then she helped us get this one up and running so we would have a phone until the Inc gets here. I guess I should have asked for a charger, too, since the Eris and the Inc use different ones.

False. Many have gotten it at two, including myself.

I wish I would have gotten mine swapped at 2. Currently Eris number 4 is in transit to my house. The only thing they are willing to do for me at the moment is a manager approved upgrade and 2 year pricing on a phone (my upgrade date is March 12th), or keep sending me another Eris.

Since Best Buy, Amazon, WalMart, and Target are offering phones at a fraction of the price that VZW is charging Im just going to have to keep riding it out with the Eris

I bitched and moaned to two Verizon reps on the phone and one in store, none of them knew what the hell they were doing or what was going on in the world around them. Couldn't offer me anything for the Eris, but another Eris.

I'm sending it in for the $132 giftcard, and using that toward a $120 Samsung Fascinate refurb on a 1-year contract through their website. Lucky I had a extra line with a usable upgrade.

I got an incredible after my 4th Eris. The trick for me was to ask to speak to a supervisor when I called. They offered it to me without me asking.

I got the same deal without talking to a supervisor, but turns out my Certified Like New Incredible, doesn't boot, it bootloops. So now I've been through 3 Eris and 1 Inc and another on the way tomorrow.

If you have legitimate problems and they still keep giving you the same phone model with the same problem, then you might need to take up more drastic measures.

I switched from the Eris while the silent bug was still going on and I used the excuse that I was a college student away from home and my 21st had just passed. My parents had tried calling all day, but the silent issue prevented the ringtone from sounding (legitimate issue) and that my parents were worried I was dead in a gutter intoxicated.

She switched it out right away. You need to make something drastic up for an issue. I had to go through two Erises, the first I said it was overheating simply sitting there with the screen off and I put the phone on speakerphone saying that it was too hot to put close to my ear. This was in addition to the silent bug issue.

Bring up issues that could be potential lawsuits, like burning and explosions.

Number 4 ended up being the magic number. It had a blown earpiece out of the box.

I called and they wanted me to upgrade and renew, I told them no. There were too many new phones coming within the next few months for me to waste an upgrade and my last NE2.

Then they offered to sell me a certified pre-owned Droid 1 for $289. I told them I wasnt paying 300 for a phone to get me by for a few months .

I told them that if I was going to have to buy a phone today, that I was buying the Nexus S and switching to T-Mobile. The CSR then decided to get smart and remind me that my ETF fee was $175. I politely told her that I would be trading my Eris in for $132 Verizon card and applying that to the ETF, so I would only have to pay $43 out of pocket when it was all said and done.

Upon hearing that I was immediately transferred to another rep who immediately offered to send me a Droid 2.

You have to call customer support. You won't get good results in the store.

Bark up the right tree, and don't be rude, but be firm that you are not satisfied with your device, because of the trackball issue.

I have had Verizon offer me replacement phones of different models after as little as one like-kind replacement. Other times it's taken 2 or at the most 3 like-kind replacements before they would offer a different model. And they never just offered the different model without me asking about it. One time I got to choose which replacement I wanted, other than the standard replacement. I traded an Env3 for a Dare, when the Env Touch was the standard replacement. I just wanted a Dare instead, and at that time they had been discontinued, but I got one anyway.

You must talk to be transferred to tech support for them to do this for you. The first person who answers the phone can't do it.

I don't have my Eris yet, but I will in a week. And I have oftened wondered why there is a trackball at all on this fully touchscreen phone? I wonder if there is a way to remove or just disable it?

Touchscreen or not, on the Eris it is often nearly impossible to properly position the cursor when trying to edit text when using just touch. That's probably the best use of the trackball, and was the way that I used it most (though I rarely used it) until I rooted the phone. Now I use it a lot more. ;)
