Root How to install ICARUS 1.1 by Isaacj87

1) Download Icarus via the link below.

- Place it in the
MAIN folder of your SDcard

after you do that unplug the usb and shut down phone...
2) Reboot into recovery mode:

To do this, turn the phone off and press the following hardware key combination:

HOLD Volume up + Call and TAP Power
It is important that you hold Volume up + Call until it fully boots in CWM

I have a question about this part of the instructions:

Optional:

Now, we need to partition the SDcard. In order to fully use DT's apps2sd, we new 2 partitions on our sdcards:

- While still in "advanced", move down to "Partition SD Card"
We'll need the format to be "256" and "0" for swap. I recommend using "256," but feel free to try a larger size. YMMV. Reboot.

When it says reboot does it mean there will be a reboot option or does it mean hold the power button to turn off the phone and then turn it back on again?

It means turn the phone off and back on.

after the partition just reboot the system....

My phone has been stuck on the boot screen for about 25 minutes. I am starting to panic. Is this normal? Should I disconnect the usb cable?

Yes...take the battery out and the Sd Card. Put the battery back in and reboot. After it has finished booting put the Sd card back in. This should be the only time you have to do this.

you installing icarus? and also was you installing it while usb was still connected to the computer via usb>

Yes and yes.

6) Select backup and restore. Select Backup and do a backup. This is going to take about 5 minutes. After that, go all the way back and select reboot system now, connect the phone to the computer, press Mount on the notification that pops out in the phone, view your files on your sd card, find the clockworkmod folder and copy that file to your computer. Keep the phone mounted and connected to computer and proceed.

Where are you with it now Fred?

Wow, I'm totally glad I only had a 2GB SD card. This sounds like a major issue that I'd hate to have dealt with. Glad you found the way to get it working properly. Perhaps they will add that into the Icarus update post. ^^.

P.S I live near the Gandy bridge. LOL.

Cool we are only about 10 - 15 min from each other. :)

It was a bit of a headache and I almost gave up, but it was well worth the struggle. Almost all my internal memory is free and I have 2 gigs of space to install apps, and all the games and apps I have installed are running great! Icarus has awesome speed.........it's like a whole new phone.......will do until a 4G phone gets to a price I am willing to pay......only down side to Metro is the no 3G.......I envy Jazz and her Cricket.

To reboot you hit the Back Button on your phone and then select reboot from the menu.

Don't envy me now. I'm mad as hell at Cricket ATM! LOL :D

Huh? It sure doesn't have that option on my phone. LOL

In Clockwork you don't have the reboot option in the main menu?

And why are you mad at Cricket?

Oh! Sorry I didn't realize you were talking about hitting the backup button while you were in the Clockwork screen. ;)

Cricket has overcharged me 40 bucks, that's why! I'll explain later. I have to go do stuff with my boyfriend now. He likes to have a little bit of my time now and then. :p

Anyone tried to put a custom boot sound with Icarus 1.1?

I tried putting a bootStrapSound.ogg file in the /system/media/audio/ui folder, but it doesn't play when the phone starts :(

Any thoughts on this?

Figured it out, the build.prop file doesn't contain the code for playing a boot sound.

If you wold like to add custom boot sounds to your phone running Icarus 1.1 you will need to add the following lines to your build.prop file. I added them right at the top of the sections where the other lines are that start with ro.config.hw

ro.config.hw_isninecell=true
ro.config.hw_bootSoundValue=3.0
ro.config.hw_hasbootsound=true

Now working with custom boot sound :)

I have the solution to everyone who is stuck at bootloop. If anyone is stuck at the Android guy with the spotlight for more than 15 minutes, Unplug USB cable, Take off the battery, Plug USB cable without putting the battery back on. When the phone fully boots, unplug the USB, insert battery, and turn back on. Thats it.

All you have to do is unplug USB and remove battery and remove SD Card, Reinsert battery and restart phone and it will start normally. Then you can reinsert SD Card.

Is your A2SD working like it should after doing this? Is it only taking memory from the ext2 partition?

I had issues and had to use ADB to setup A2SD manually to work..........I have 16GB SD Card though and 2GB ext2 partition. I'm curious if it has to do with the large SD Card or the large ext2 partition as to why I had to setup A2SD manually. Would like to hear from anyone who had to do the quoted procedure with a 2GB SD Card and 256 or 512 ext2 partition.

Follow the instructions at the beginning of the post from start to finish.....they are very clear and concise on everything you have to do. In order to install the Icarus Mod to your phone you need to first install clockwork to your phone.

You may need to start all over from the beginning if you didn't do things correctly. Not sure what would cause your phone to behave that way when you remove your SD Card.......it should have no effect except to show SD Card has been remove when you remove it.

Once I put the SD card back in, I rebooted and it was fine. I'm not sure what that means or why. I'm not too concerned as I do not intend to take the card out again. Though mine did not go to the spotlight droid (Doesn't reboot, Doesn't turn off). Mine just had the Market say com.android.vending.

It happened with me when I took my SD card out. I actually did the Icarus install with Jazz talking to me. Icarus is running fine, I've had zero issues once I got it all settled in. Just kind of odd that it would be acting up when I remove then SD card. I'd assume this might have something to do with the apps2sd? Not completely sure. If anyone knows, Please let me know too!

no thats not it im pretty tech literate and i followed the letter to the T... im pretty sure i did everything right

i think it has something to do with the app2sd too,
i put my memory card back in
shut the phone off
brought up the clockwork screen and did a factory reset then rebooted my phone and now it works fine and has been for the past few hours ive had icarus :D

i guess the sd partition i created stored the android market there and when i take out the sd it screws it up, so i just wont be removing my card any time soon ;)
and all the rumors are true icarus is waaay better looking and is waaay faster 0 to no lag at all, its super fast and smooth

whats has happen about the market issues is it is being install to memory card, and how to fix that is...take out your card and do a factory reset, leave the card out while you load up the market and the update for it, after market loads without the memory card, you market will work with or without the memory card in....aap2sd is causing that to happen if you run market for the first time if card is in your phone.....
