Does anyone know if you can pre "purchase" the free apps via the web site? Basically, I ordered the thunderbolt and am waiting for it to come in and I would like to take advantage of the free apps they are offering. Is this possible. if so how? I tried signing into my amazon account and clicking the get app button and it sent me the install email. I thought that worked yesterday but today I tried it again and it had me sent the install email again. Any thoughts?

Plus Texas Hold Em is free today, and not $4.99.

bryan9915, do you have an android devise yet? If so I was able to get amazon market set-up on my phone and get Angry Birds Rio, then when I went home I added amazon market to my tablet and as soon as I signed it in told me that I had an application that I could download.

No I dint have one right now. Still using my WinMo until it come in. Says delivery is expected by the end of the month. Thats a whole week of potential free apps I am missing out on. And you know they are going to do the best ones right at first to get people in.

THIS. I followed the instructions and it worked perfectly for me.
False, not user error - I had the same issues.

To get the game to install (after successful App Store install), do the following:

1. Plug your phone into your PC and set to mass storage mode.
2. Open your phone and go to the '.android_secure' folder
3. delete the smdl2tmp1.asec file
4. I re-started my phone, not sure if that's required or not.
5. The OS will rebuild that file - try the install again and it should work.

I couldn't get it to work. I kept getting a message that the app wouldn't/couldn't install.

I'll just add this to my LONG list of things that irritate me about my Droid X.

I couldn't get it to install twice. I saw that the app had downloaded twice and said WTH to myself. Then I backed out of the Amazon app. There on my screen was the install application window so I clicked install and it worked just fine!

No. I followed the instructions exactly as they were written. For whatever reason, it just won't work.

It's not really a huge deal as I've come to expect such things from this phone.
See, that's the point where you'll lose everyone.

Almost everyone installs this without the slightest hiccup, and you try to blame the device. Instead, why don't you list what specifically happens, what steps you went through, and someone here will help.

I've been playing with Privacy Blocker which can "fix" security problems with apps then allow you to reinstall them. I like the idea but it's not all roses in practice. What does this have to do with the Amazon Appstore? I'm glad you asked.

Just messing with the store I downloaded a free timer app. Then because I'm a geek, I scanned it with Privacy Blocker and found it notes my phone's unique ID, which I don't think a timer should do. Allowed Privacy Blocker to "fix" it and reinstall the app. The app no longer worked.

I can't remember the exact error but apparently the Amazon Appstore's DRM is in place even for freebie apps. What I find a bit alarming is that any app using Amazon DRM sold there will have additional permissions which have nothing to do with the functionality of the base app. It makes weeding out the illicit apps a bit tougher. Amazon does check every app so maybe it's no biggie.

I just thought it was interesting.

And looking at all the instructions to get the Amazon Appstore working is surprising. I entered my number on Amazon's site, they sent me a text with a URL, I followed the URL, it installed the Appstore app, starting the store app downloaded any pending purchases. Start to finish the whole process took a minute. Maybe because I have a Kindle they like me.
