If there's one thing FROYO taught me was not to get too excited about these updates.

Now the new Sense on the other hand... :)

Really? I thought FroYo was a nice bump and a lot of it had to do with core that improved performance and reliability. I dont really see how even an incremental bump in performance and reliability isnt a huge deal on something like a phone.

If you like games and such 2.3 should matter to you because they have modified the APIs so that games should run better on all hardware.

2.3 means smoother animations/scrolling, more responsive touch and lower CPU usage, which usually leads to better performance and battery.

HTC had a nice web portion showing the difference, but for whatever reason, took it down.

Among the features are the ability to track and deactivate your phone if lost, map caching (since overcome by Google's Maps update), more browser windows than the default 4 we now face, and a number of settings that we use HTC widgets for that would now be available via tabs in the notification bar - to name a few.

For Gingerbread - either search earlier in this forum or google for "youtube android 2.3 official video" - I'd post it here, but am fearful it would be too close to repeating just once too often.

The vid shows a lot of features cast in terms of games, but my earlier post stands - better memory management via superior garbage collection as well as more codec updates.

Really.

I never had performance or reliability issues so maybe thats why. I remember after FROYO thinking "All of that hype for this?"

I'm just chilling back and when 2.3 happens officially, that's fantastic. I honestly couldnt be happier with this phone and have no complaints. It does everything that I need and then some :). I've got all the news apps I can handle - Just finished NUKING NY Times :D, Games play flawlessly, email integration is great. However it sure would be nice if the screens and apps scrolled more smoothly like our friends carrying Apple and MS Hardware. Something tells me that we wont be seeing that with this handset as it will probably take a significant processor increase...

I would say that it is obsolete now, most people will upgrade to the evo 3d in June when its released because b that time all sprint premier customers have their full upgrade, mine is 6/1, to me they missed the boat on the evo update, should have been updated a few months ago. I am guessing the evo 3d comes out in june cuz the evo 4g came out june of last year, so it would only make sense...

obsolete is not the right term!

once the e3d is released....evo will not be top dog, that is true.

but to say the og evo is obsolete... is just ignorant! (by they way.. you might want to look that up too.)

It is far from obsolete, and many of the Premier customers lost their early upgrade due to recent changes of the Premier Rewards Program.

Luckily I am not one of them. I called to check because i thought that was messed up how they got so many people on the plan they wanted them to have, then changed the requirements of a premiere customer. Either way I am good though. I am going to wait untril the evo get gingerbread before i jump on the evo3d. I usually get 2 new phones a year, but after owning the evo it has been a wrap.

It's somewhat ironinc I guess, with all this talk about an upgrade to GB and new Sense, over the past couple of weeks, it seems like my EVO has been working better than ever. The battery has been lasting longer than it really ever has, I have noticed that over the last few weeks the pictures I have taken have been very clear and bright and the phone volume seems to be real good as well along with a few decent apps I have loaded have been quite good. With this, I can agree with many of the members that I am not dying for the update as I was with Froyo and will most likely keep the phone well past my upgrade in June!!
