froyo 2.2 for virgin usa samsung intercept

I did notice that after installing "quick settings" from the market, I can turn on the hotspot and I see it as "AndroidAP" from my mac. However, the UI for setting password etc are not there in the network settings area and the AP appears to be locked with a default or random password that I didn't choose.

It looks like it might be possible to do if we either know the default password or locate an app that sets the password directly instead of pointing at the built-in settings the way quick settings does.

I tested this some more. I think there is one default AP configuration in the db. Once someone has rooted the phone, we need to do this through an adb shell:

Code:
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db 'select * from secure'
Only then will we know if there is a default password that an unrooted phone could use.

I think if I don't get the update by this week i'm switching to t-mobile...the customer service and phone quality is definitely worth the extra 10 a month..

Im sick of VM support being so useless.

I don't know what you're talking about.. a T-Mobile plan comparable to VM (500 minutes, Unlimited Text + Data) costs $79.99.

They have a special offer where they give you unlimited everything for $79.99, but that's still at least $20 more a month than what Virgin offers.

Oh really? I don't think the market is THE area where it pops up. It happens randomly wherever you are. Sure send us pics, I (myself) don't believe you yet.

ColoradoMJ: try downloading the app called quicksettings from the market. you should be able to make the phone usable with that until you can get a replacement. i don't know if this can help but: if you or your partner purchased with amex, your warranty may have been extended by a year. ask amex to resolve.

Thanks for the suggestions. The phone is under warrantee, and apparently (hopefully) they are sending a new one. That's only the third time they've promised they were. I don't know how I would download an app to a phone that won't boot, though.

I don't think we purchased these with the AmEx... Visa, I think... but, if Virgin won't respond, I may contact the credit card company anyway.

If AT&T buys T-Mobile your going to get slapped with all of their restrictions, then (after they try and rob you during your current contract) when your current contract ends you will be forced to get a highly expensive plan that offers crap.

Phone Companies:
Expensive with no customer service
or
Cheap with no customer service

I've been lurking the thread all week to see if anyone's gotten it. And I finally got it this morning. :D
It only took ~5 minutes to install. Running a lot faster, and more responsive. No laggs yet, of course I've only had it for a few hours. But so far it's amazing!
My status bar used to freeze up and I couldn't do anything with it, this happened at least once every few hours with 2.1 so far it hasn't happened yet. :D

I think by "root" they are not referring to an actual directory, more the highest level on your SD card (not a folder). In other words, the location of the update file would be:

SD:\Update.zip

Where SD is the label of your SD card.

Also, I believe the phone OS hides known file extensions and so the update zip file should be renamed "update" not "update.zip" because in actuality you would be renaming the update file to "update.zip.zip"

Trust me....don't let VM waste more of your time..
update it yourself, it'll save you anticipation for an update I thought would be better for some reason. Don't get me wrong, it brought the Intercept to a very functional phone now, much much better than 2.1. But now, there is no point of waiting, it's already been released.

Copy the Update.zip into your SD card (not in a folder, straight to the card where you see all your folders).

Unplug and restart in recovery (VOL DOWN, CALL, END) and click update. that simple.

Those are some of the features on the new update. As you can see its froyo 2.2.2 and the virgin mobile symbol is at the bottom. This ISNT the sprint version either, this IS the Virgin Mobile version,no hacks,no rooting or anything.Bam.
