Recommending Go Launcher (was "New Launcher!" and "Go Sms"))

I must say when I looked at this when it first came out I was not all that impressed. I have been using the stock Gingerbread launcher since the first leak came out, but not being able to get all the widgets resized was getting to be too much for me. I have ADW Ex, but did not feel like going back on that. I have LPP and that is what I have been using on my tablet so I gave it a shoot. There were improvements from the stock GB, but the lag was just killing me!!!! So I thought what the heck I will check this out again. I am impressed! Very nice set-up and very smooth. This is an improvement from stock, but I am not giving anything up. I changed the app drawer to be the stock app drawer, I really like what was done there. The only thing that will complete this is give us more than a 5x5 grid (I don't need 10x10 :) ) and then keep building on widgets, a calendar and social network would be great.

I think I will stick with this for a little while and see what all it can do.

Yesterday my Go Launcher Home button started acting up. Instead of going to my home screen, it goes to one of my other screens. Did a lot of searching and can't find a workaround/fix so I uninstalled. I'll just go with stock blur until GB comes out. I really did like Go Launcher and used it for several weeks without any issues.

Did you double check to make sure that your "primary" home screen wasn't changed to a different home screen?

I have been running this with Agenda Widget, which scrolls and have not had any issues. This was one of the reasons I jumped off the GB default launcher, I needed to see more of my agenda.

I was running it with a scrolling calendar widget as well. None are very good imo.

You guys say you like GoSMS better than stock and handcent. What plusses does it have? I do loveeeee the fact that GoSMS has emoji support as well. Before I start downloading and changing all my settings I am just wondering what is different from what I currently have.

I found the more recent Handcent updates to be quite laggy, but GoSMS is very snappy. I had used Handcent for almost a year, and I'm pleased with the switch. Other than performance, not sure what you GAIN from switching, but you certainly don't LOSE anything. Can't remember if Handcent supported folders? GoSMS does.

I kept having problems with GoSMS in that my messages would keep being weirdly ordered after a while. Like if it was the same day and I was texting a friend back and fourth, all his messages would be above all my replies. It was weird.

same issue for me. I also would butt dial people for no reason while using GoSMS's turn on screen feature when I got text messages and had my phone in my pocket, it would do all kinds of crazy stuff if I didn't answer the text right away.

Back to Handcent for those reasons. :D

After reading the positive reports about GO SMS on this thread, I decided to try it. I dl'd it last night and spent aboput 30 minutes setting it up. I will give it a couple of days them decide if I will keep it or go back to Handcent. There certainly is alot of customization available on GO SMS! I like the ability to easily save the settings to the SD card for when I eventually update to GB, or flash a ROM.

There were comments at the beginning of the setup process that mentioned the message ordering and time stamp issues on the DX. The settings for this can be reached by going to: Settings/Important Tips, (at the bottom), then scrolling down to "Disordered messages and timestamps". I was getting incoming messages that were showing they came in 5 hours before they did! (example, a test text message I sent from my wife's phone at 8:28PM last night showed as coming in at 3:28PM. Now, after changing those settings, all seems well.

I will let you all know if I stay with GO SMS after a few days. I am not a heavy texter, so it will take a few days. LOL

Any one got this issue where you get a text message and the LED won't blink when the screen times out? If i disable widgetlocker, it the LED would blink continuously until i read the message. I'm thinking widgetlocker is telling GO SMS that i've read the message even though I didn't. The notification icon goes away once the screen times out.

I checked all the settings. No problems when i tested handcent. Any fix would be helpful.

Has anyone tried Colorized Widget? I added this yesterday and have to say I really like it. I really liked what LPP had with the twitter feeds and all, better than any app widget that was out there IMO, but there was just too many problems with the launcher for me.

I have really liked GoLauncher and have had very little issues at all. However I came across Colorized Widget yesterday and put this on and let me tell you it is great. Not only can you get twitter, facebook, messages, but it also has an agenda, google reader contacts and others. There is a Timeline for both twitter and facebook, but you to buy the pro version for that.

Also there are several different color themes built in that you can use with these. I really like this and I think it completes GoLauncher for me.

That actually might make me switch to Go Launcher now. How much is the Pro version? I didn't see it listed in the market.

Go Launcher didn't work out for me. It kept adjusting the brightness on it's own and didn't allow me to use Circle launcher. Back to ADW and LPP.

Yeah. It didn't work out for me either. For some reason it slowed my phone to a crawl. So much so that Google Maps wouldn't work properly. I was really surprised since everyone raves about the performance. AdwEx has given me no problems and performs great.
