Unlocked Bootloader - I think so!!

This is definitely good news for the EVO 3D. Now the rumored post June 11 release date is more bearable. Hopefully this is the right forum, but had to spread the great news!

Thanks for this post and for the link to HTC on Facebook. I think it would be a prudent gesture for an equal number of folks to post on their Facebook page a word of thanks for heaing what the community had to say... and reacting in a positive way. Folks these days are very quick to get angry and criticize, but very slow to just say.... thanks. :rolleyes:

I already posted my thank you comment! It's interesting to see the reactions... a lot of people are thanking them but there's still a few who didn't bother to read the news and are still writing vicious comments :rolleyes:

EDIT: I second the call for a release date. I am now more excited than ever!!

So... We won? WE WON! now there is simply no way I won't be getting the EVO 3D. If they're not going to lock it, then they can retroactively send out a firmware update for their phones when they launch.

They not only saved several thousand current customers from leaving, but probably gained new ones too, as shown by multiple comments like this:

"Wow, what a great company you are. I own a Motorola device, but I think you just gained a new future customer. Thanks for listening!"

Definately a smart move by them. If they will ship the 3D and Sensation with the unlocked bootloaders or how long it will take to get an update pushed through when they do arrive.

uhm...duh? the reason people were complaining was to let HTC know if they didn't change their stance on their bootloaders they wouldn't buy HTC products anymore..well HTC listened and reversed their stance..why wouldn't they go back to supporting HTC?

edit: now lets go to sprints facebook and complain about a release date..jk!

Another point is the CEO said as of today they won't lock the bootloaders on their phone. EVO 3Ds are ready to ship from HTC already. They aren't going to go in and make changes this late in the process.

The point I was trying to make was some ppl, not all, were being vicious and rude in their posts. The same people that were accusing HTC of turning its back on their supporters were so ready to do the same. Ironic.

I agree with you on the release date issue, I want this phone already.

They wouldn't have to make late changes before shipping.

The Evo had an OTA update on launch day - June 4, 2010.

HTC can and has included bootloader updates with signature-security changes for the Evo. (To this day, before rooting an Evo, you check bootloader revision to see what root method to use for your particular version.)

Therefore - HTC can easily work with Sprint to push this update without ever opening a box that's warehoused and ready to ship, and Bob's your uncle.

And no way they'd play loophole on the Sensation or the Evo - no way at all.

They responded to what the users presented as unacceptable and put it in terms of customer loyalty.

To turn around and betray thru clever lying any part of that user base would be a disaster - they're not fools, they responded correctly today, they won't lie tomorrow.

In my opinion.

Wow, HTC. That's awesome Customer Service there. This action alone has me reconsidering buying an HTC product over a Samsung. I could always use LauncherPro to hide the Sense Launcher
