Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

guys..
as usual..the stupid Kies wasn't showing any available firmware upgrade for my device..so used Odin to upgrade my Galaxy S to JV6..failed the first time around..but worked on the second try!
Anyhow..so i am successfully running 2.3.3 now..but the process made me lose all my contacts/messages,images n all were intact! thankfully i had a backup to restore!

also, quite a lot apps previously working fine are now crashing the moment i start them..a reinstall is required for those apps now!

So i just updated to gingerbread!!..still too early to say if things look for the better.

Do have 1 observation and i wanna ask this to all who have upgraded to 2.3.3 - "Has anyone noticed a drastic drop in battery life after the upgrade??"

My battery used to run atleast 1.5 days with nirmal usage. Post upgrading yest, it went from 92% to 30% overnight!!!!

Havent noticed the drop as yet. Been using the update only for a day now. But will keep a watch on this and will let you know if I face the same issues.

Do we have any place where we can check all the updates done in 2.3.3? A list of what new things are added...

Hi everyone,

Updated my galaxy s to gingerbread yesterday and no problems so far . . . in fact the battery life seems to have improved tremendously, as in its still at 75% after the entire day day including 2 hrs of gaming :D

75% after 2 hrs of gaming.. woaah thats good.. just a question though.. Was GPRS on during gaming or was it off ie.. without using data network and background syn for gtalk?

Have you done a factory reset post the upgrade??? If not then you will experience battery drain.. do a factory reset and things should be fine

Ya m running windows 7. The error that im getting is "There was an unexpected error. The device is not responding." This error is coming while preparing to upgrade firmware

I'm a software engineer myself, i have successfully updated my firmware, u need to do a hard reset to ur fone in order to update, the error that everybody is getting is a handset s/w issue and not a PC or OS or Windows issue, u need to hard reset by going to settings > privacy > erase all user data option. After u do this, connect to Kies and u

You need a new Kies to update to the latest gingerbread version...download it from samsung site. Before that you need to uninstall the old kies and the update file to uninstall is also in the samsung web site. You will still need to manually remove the 'samsung' folder under program files in your windows (assuming yu are using windows)...you should then see the new kies installed. HTH.
