got that damn right...look if the Nokia modding community were still playing with modding the old 5800 music phone and that came out like 2008 (or was it late 2007?) back when I was an old nokia member last october...then im sure the Desire has at least another year easily left for the modding lot to well.....do what they do best lol

Me too!! That's what I love about my gingerbread ROM. HTC Sense has looked the same for years and I do think they should use those green signal bars etc...

thats why I used the kitchen an put the gingerbread status things in....then later changed them cos I then got bored of them lol

I did...but I also found they didnt replace ALL the icons with the honeycomb ones...so I would still have some icons come up with 'sense' boxes round them...obviously so they fitted with the sense status bar

1) No need to spam the forum. One post would have been enough.
2) Sure, it's disappointing, but if you've had the phone a year you've already had an upgrade to FroYo. Is Gingerbread really that much of a step up anyway? I know HTC did say that they were going to release an update for the Desire, but how many people really believed it?
Face it, the phone is 18 months old, and that is ancient for a piece of consumer kit like this. There is nothing basically wrong with FroYo, and those people that really want Gingerbread will just root and install a custom ROM. And HTC know that.

Exactly the point I was just going to make, that occurred to me after posting.
Let's not forget that HTC are in the business of making money, and the way they do that is by encouraging current owners to move onto the next phone, or those that are switching to HTC to buy the latest & greatest, rather than by making do with someting older and cheaper.
The only way they can do that is by differentiating, and keeping the newest OS releases to the latest phones is one way of doing that. We got an upgrade to 2.2, and there was a strong argument for that to address the asbysmal RAM on the Desire. Now that that has been sorted, There is nothing wrong with the basic functionality of the phone under 2.2
Take a look at the 'What phone next?" threads. There are an awful lot of people saying "The Desire S is not enough of an upgrade feature-wise for me, apart from Gingerbread which I've already got 'cos I'm rooted". I'm sure they read these forums and this view has contributed to their decision to not release 2.3 for the Desire; If that's the opinion of the techno-geeks then it's likely to be the opinion of a large proportion of the masses also.
But they have also stated that they will not continue with the signed/locked/whatever bootloaders, so those of us who want to root and upgrade that way are (hopefully) free to do so.
No, you are also free to continue to use your phone as-is, there's f*ck all wrong with it (that a new OS will fix anyway).

Agreed - GB brings a number of small improvements, but it's not going to be dramatically different for most people.

It would seem fair to me if phone manufacturers would update for 2 year period as most contracts these days are 2 years long. At least google is moving towards this in future if their key note speech was accurate this year.

as said in the other post. it doesnt make sense as they blatently developed a 2.3 rom as there are 2 version leaks from a test rom.
also we know HTC watches the dev communities closely so they will know that rom is about.
I wonder what their u-turn is for.
maybe its because otherwise people have no reason to buy a galaxyS as the hardware is not much of an improvement

This is what they sent me on 7th June, so i'm officially confused now
"Thank you for your inquiry regarding, when the Android 2.3 update will be released for the HTC Desire phones.
The new Android Gingerbread 2.3 update is set to be released in Q2 of 2011.
You will be recieving a notification, with the new update, on your phone, sometime in June.

It will come to you in the future. At the moment we send it out to aprox. 30,000 people world wide at the time (priority of Desire HD, S, Incredible S at the moment), to not overload the servers. Considerng there are xx million HTC phones in the world, some people will recieve it earlier and some people will recieve it later.
There is like a queue, but it does not depend on which country you live in or anything.
So all we can tell you to do is to wait, you will recieve it sooner or later. We can't tell you an exact date.
Not sure if this helps anyone but it does seem to back up trevytrevs response from HTC.
