Gingerbread impressions/tips/problems NON ROOTED STOCK ONLY

Well, the game data doesn't really concern me, personally, as much as actual settings of the phone and applications. There is nothing worse than having to go into each app and set up settings the way you had them.

I guess that is my biggest question. Does My Backup Pro restore those settings in applications, as well as on the phone? For instance, will it restore the frequency I want "News and Weather" and "Stocks" to update? Will it restore the ringtone I have set for my wife? Etc.....

Also, after restoring apps, do they show in the Market under the "My Apps" label?

What you posted is what I observed with MybackupPro experience.
You get the apps & contacts back but not the setting or history associated with those apps (nor pass words).

Correct... I wish it saved all your app settings, but I haven't found a back up that did that. Yet anyways ;)

To answer your questions... Yes and NO, Will it keep the settings on your apps... No, will it restore the ringtone for your wife... I don't think so, Will your apps be there in the market place under "My Apps"... Yes

What Mybackup Pro does is only keeps the APK files, so when you restore you apps, it going to restore a clean app of the program you had, so it will only do that, not keep settings within the app. In regards to a specific ring tones I don't think so, because I think thats an internal memory function, so when you do a factory reset, it's going to wipe all ring tones that are specific to your contact.... Hmmm yet it does back up your contacts, and in your contacts you can add a specific ringtone, so maybe it might save the ring tone.

If you decide to do a hard reset let me know if the ring tones stay when you do a restore.

Do you or anybody else know if Mybackup Pro saves apps that are no longer available on the market? Reason I ask is, I have a weather widget that I really like a lot, but it's not available in the market anymore and I don't want to lose it.

I was hoping that there'd be a free app that does all that Mybackup Pro does (especially saving widgets/themes/setup), but haven't been able to find one. I don't mind paying for Mybackup Pro, but only if there aren't any other alternatives.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, I'm happy with the under the hood updates. My EVO is faster, has better battery life and just seems to work better. I'm not very impressed with everything else. So I'm looking for opinions on what I should do, cuz I'm getting itchy for some new stuff and better functionality.

I'm thinking about having Sprint roll back my EVO to group, then rooting and flashing rooted gingerbread.

Or ill just wait for the debate to crack gingerbread.

What do you guys think?

I haven't seen anyone mention this but after the GB update Mobile Defense keeps force closing and is no longer available in the market. Anyone know what's going on? Although I have never had to use it, I like knowing that if my phone gets lost/stolen I can erase all my data remotely.
This happened to me too. It is documented in the forums at the Mobile Defense website. There they have a link for you to download the app so you can uninstall and install again, and then it works fine. You may want to clear the data on the App before uninstalling first, they recommended that. Hope this helps.

Hey guys, didn't see a response to this so I'm chipping in... The settings for the RSTP/HTTP proxy and port are there. Advanced--> Scroll all the way down--> RTSP/HTTP Setting.

Also, I zeroed out the RTSP proxy address and port today, I noticed a bit of a difference while running Pandora. Although probably unrelated to the change in settings, one of the major things I noticed was that if I opened Pandora and left it open and didn't go back to my home screen it played just fine, it also worked fine if I opened it and hit the lock screen button. When I opened it and went back to my home screen or anywhere other than Pandora itself, it would pause/delay loading the next song until I clicked back on it. Which leads me to believe the app is having issues running in the background ? idk, might a dev question/issue. Anywho, hope this helps. :)

Damn...good eyes. I looked at it twice and didn't see it. But I wasn't looking for a sub menu...I was looking specifically for what it was originally. Looks like they buried those settings in a sub menu now. I'll be changing them back to 0 now...thanks for the input.

Also...my launcher Pro is acting weird now. I am traveling by plane right now and had turned the phone off. When i
turned it back on, it came on with Sense instead of Launcher Pro. I did another power cycle, and it came back up with Launcher Pro, but I had the Sense wall paper. So I set everything back up normal...

Then, the next day, I did another power cycle for another issue I had been having. It restarted with Sense again...and after a second power cycle, I got Launcher Pro back, but with a Sense wallpaper. So twice now, Launcher Pro is being deselected as is my wallpaper with a restart.

Here's something else I noticed today. I have a few groups set up in my contacts. When you go into contacts, you always see them alphabetically by first name. And before, when you went into a group, it showed the group alphabetically too, but not anymore. THere's no rhyme or reason to the order inside the groups.

...and the calculator seems a tad different, anyone notice that?
I have the same problem with no alphabetical order in contact groups. A Sprint rep today told me not to update to Gingerbread. Obviously, that advice came too late. Anybody else with this problem? Any word on whether a fix is on the way?

Arrghh, yeah found out the hard way with MyBackup Pro, anxious to factory reset and start from a clean slate, but I didn't want it to be that clean. Should have read everything I could about it.

Anyways to answer some questions,

Saving ringtones: nope
app settings: nope
Home screen: yes & no, icons placed in right spot (yes), wallpaper (no)
Playlists: yes (i'm using doubletwist)
phone settings: nope (i.e. wifi, bluetooth, etc...)

I'm sure I might be missing a few things but for me the most important were: ringtones, app settings, phone setting. none were done so I'm disappointed.

Sorry I know it's s Gingerbread thread, but just be prepared for those who never did a factory reset and in hopes MyBackup Pro will save you a bunch of time, it doesn't.

Well I did a factory reset, twice since mybackup pro seems to have been overzealous in restoring my contacts and confused google, and it is a bit smoother, and I have a chunk of free memory I can't account for now with the same apps installed, so happy day.

But, my battery life took a dump, Dialer is beating Display now for battery usage, I'm usually at 69% when I get home, going from about 8:30AM till home at 6PM. Today, with it plugged in and charging till 9AM, and half an hour charging at lunch, it was at 53% when I got home. What is up with the dialer? I didn't even make or take a call today.

I guess i was one of the lucky ones, my update had no issues. The only thing missing is the sense. When will this become available for evo?

Only not so major issue I've had so far is with my individual contacts being sync'd to their Facebook account. That was a quick fix because all I had to do was remove the account and then add it again. The regular Facebook link was disabled after Gingerbread, so that was causing my contacts not to be able to link to their Facebook.

As for all the other issues, those are with regards to specific apps having the issue, not necessarily Gingerbread (but I'm patient enough to wait for those to get updated).

Does Astro just back up apps that can be moved to the SD, or can it back up all of them (including the ones downloaded, but not able to move to SD)?

I have a couple apps that are no longer in the market, but didn't want to lose them (and they can't be moved to the SD).

If the app can't be moved to SD card then you wont loose it while clearing your SD card:)

Its not a requirement that the app can be moved to be backed up. But some apps wont allow backup so you would have to use a more sophisticated tool like many root users mention in these forums. Astro will allow you to select all or just an app or two. Also it is very easy to check the status of an app you've backed up with astro. If you still have the original .apk downloaded at the time you installed said apps you could use that to reinstall the apps as needed just by opening it with your app manager. It was a relatively easy process when i look back on it. Much easier than wiping the phone as i did twice recently:(

When I first installed the update it acted exactly as you describe.after some digging i noticed that HTC sense was automatically set as default. And even after choosing launcher pro and checking the box I still had to manually clear the ddefaults set for sense before it would finally act right...

Just a thought on the EVO's battery life. Three friends have the phone and i am the only one not noticing an increased battery life...I am also the only one using juice defender.

Any possible way this could be the variable causing the failed increase in battery life?
I also get nonstop voicemail notifications, but I AM TOO AFRAID TO DO A HARD RESET :( Any other possible way to fix this issue?

Well if you don't want to do a hard reset, your only option is to wait for a fix or update. in regards to Juice Defender... I am not sure, I have never used it, but it wont hurt for you to uninstall it and reboot your phone and test it and see if you get better battery life.

I'd say it's not juice defender. I use that and the battery life is awesome compared to before. And battery life was never a complaint of mine at all.

Yeah MyBackup will save these apps. Even though I'm rooted, and most rooted users use Titanium, for whatever reason I stuck with MyBackup, and I eventually bought the Pro version. Works fine.

Name of the app is Weather Forecast for me. Lots of different options for it, but the most important thing was it was free and it had a transparent background, so it didn't block my wallpaper from being visable.

Someone had mentioned MyBackup Pro and I was thinking of testing out the regular free version, but it's only a 30 day trial. Nontheless, I think I'm going to wait until the Photon 4G release date is announced before downloading. That way, I'll still be able to use that to re-install the app without having to pay. I really don't mind the $4.00, but I just wanted to make sure if there's a free one first before going ahead to purchase an app.
