Updated my x2 to the OTA gingerbread update. I have read that by doing this you are unable to root. Is this true or will gingerbread still work. If not what will I need to do to root my x2.

I wouldn't be worried about bricking your phone. While technically possible, it is very very rare (RSD makes it as such).

With the level of support available on this forum, using sbf then updating to the rooted GB is easy. I just did mine ( removed bloat instead of freezing , had to sbf -- and bought donate version of TiBu this time, lol), and it took less than an hour with my two kids jumping all over me.
Definitely worth the effort; rooted GB on this phone is FAST! Much respect to the dev community!

yes OP your only option if you've already taken the update is to SBF back to Froyo and install the pre rooted GB.
We have had to do the same method in the DX1 camp as well.
