Help captivate "Memo" export or backup?

You can copy anything that's on your SD card to your computer's hard drive. Be sure to have USB debugging enabled in menu > settings > applications > development > USB debugging (checkbox).

The Samsung Captivate drivers should be installed on your PC.

Then connect the USB cable from your device to the computer and select "move files" rather than "charge only" (or however the prompt is worded ;)).

After selecting "view files" on your computer, you'll see the file tree of the SD card there under the drive letter for the device.

I think you mean that your Captivate does not have an external SD card. The Galaxy S Captivate has an internal SD card.

You can backup the user data in the memo application with Titanium Backup. This will require root access, however, since the applciation is located in system/app, which means you will have to root your phone. You can then copy the backup files in the Titanium Backup folder on your SD card to the PC. This will allow you to restore the data into the memo application if you should lose it, or do a factory reset. The memo data saved with Titanium Backup will not be available in .txt or .doc format, however.

The app files may be in /system/app (and do actually appear to be readable without rooting) but the data is probably either in /data or /dbdata (which are not).

So, bottom line, this app's data can't be exported or backed up unless you root the phone? Any others like this?

I'm about to try updating to 2.2 using Kies, normally should I expect memo data to be preserved if this goes well? Most of what I need to be preserved is easily copied via SD, or synced to google.

Actually, I was really surprised that Kies can't generically backup app data (e.g. was implemented with the Palm Desktop). Huge bloated app, doesn't do much more than a file copy operation.

....On the infuse you can go to... text messages... compose... attach... scroll & select memo app icon... check select all... send message saves & sends each as a .vnt file which can be read on simple text edit /readers....... i did this when my phone had no wireless service & once it had a bubble saying "sending" i was still able to tap/hold message bubble for menu... select attached items... manually check all {i did 300 in about 3min}... & press save automatically saved to my internal sd card, which i moved from "my files" in apps to external sd etc. godspeed.
