Help help :( .. phone stuck on emergency mode message

hello there, im new here but wanted to see if i can get help here solving this issue instead of sending my phone in. I recently tried updating my android lg gt540 to 2.1 from 1.6 and its stuck on a message Emergency mode, well this happened with my lg viewty

i did the lg update from its website and followed the instructions carefully

and now i tried to install update but it kept failing and now my phone is stuck on emergency mode? help please?

take out the battery and then put it back in
then turn it on again!!

If that doesn't work then just install(flash) 2.1 stock again!!

im not very good with phones but ive tried that, i think when upgrading my phone well tried to from 1.6 to 2.1 something went wrong and my phone is now bricked and just wondering so i dont have to send off to LG i wanted to see if i can get help to fix it myself?
