Official Release Date Rumor Thread

Where was the October 2nd date confirmed? ATT still will not confirm a date to me by phone or in the store. October 2nd is now a week away, and they should know by now.
AT&T Twitter and Samsung website. I lost the link but it is somewhere in this thread. NOT that I believe it 100% (maybe I believe it 99.9% :) ) because they have posted incorrect information before which all the blogs pick up and everyone takes it as gospel.

I have been watching and reading this thread for weeks, hoping we would hear about the release of SG2. So I am excited about next week. I have a question for anyone that can answer. I have a family plan that has an upgrade available. However, the plan for that phone is NOT a smart phone plan. It is being used by family members that just need a phone. So, if I use their upgrade, I will be required to get a data plan on their line, correct? Well Can I cancel the data plan, especially since that line will not use data. Then use the phone on my line, which is already a smart phone with data?

I think sprint(or maybe it't tmobile) is the only one that shuts down the family members phone you upgraded on for 24 hours, then they can switch it. AT&T can use another family members upgrade on your line instantaneously . just double check after the guy does everything cause sometimes they do mess up, especially if they haven't done it that much

when you go in and buy the phone they're going to add a data plan. don't let them activate a new sim for that line and then when you get home go into the online acct mgmt and you *should* be able to drop the data from that line as long as that line has a dumbphone IMEI attached to it

there is the possibility that they might add it back automatically

All AT&T cares about is that you have an Upgrade, doesn't matter what line. I used my Wifes upgrade to get my first Smartphone last year. They will check to make sure an upgrade is available on the plan for at least ONE of the lines, but you can use it to upgrade any line you want.

So if an upgrade is available on 555-2222 you could say "My plan has an upgrade coming on phone # 555-2222, but I want to put the upgraded phone on 555-1111."

First of all, unless you pay full retail they won't let you out of the store without activation. If you order it from the AT&T website you will get it and it will not be activated.

If it's an AT&T device (IMEI) there is absolutely no way to get out of a smartphone dataplan. You may get away with it for a few days then they will automatically add it. Using a SIM from a dumbphone with or without a dataplan still won't prevent it. They scan devices by IMEI and can tell what it is unless it is a device AT&T doesn't have.

Bottom line is, no matter what SIM it is, new or old, you will have a dataplan on a new smartphone.

As far as using someone else's upgrade in your family, that is absolutely no problem. You can even use a friends upgrade if they are willing to take the 2yr contract. That's the beauty of GSM. You can swap phones freely between friends, family and countrymen. It's only your SIM that matters.

You can swap your dumbphone SIM into it but you're still going to get put on a smartphone dataplan within a couple days. You may as well just tell them up front what you are doing it so they can correctly provision your account or when they add the data you might have problems.

Sorry, can't beat 'em for the data unless you go on Prepay (which my wife does with an iPhone 3G) but then you have to pay full price for the phone. Those "beat the data" days are long gone.

I think Kidsavior had it right. I am NOT trying to get out of paying for a data plan and use data. Just the opposite, but I think you all answered my question. So I will be able to get the phone. BTW I know Costco is usually pretty good as others have mentioned, but I also like Target for discounts also.

I stopped by costco and they said they were not sure if they would have it at launch. He said the bionic launch 10 people were there when they opened at 9:30 and waited until the shipment arrived at 12:30.

If they do have it do they still offer accessories for lauch products? Also anyone know of some good links for decent cheap accessories for the sg2?

Like car charger, protective case etc. I ask because when the infuse came out it seemed like there weren't hardly any accessories and we were at the mercy of the at&t retail price. TIA

Costco Mobile Kiosk doesn't sell accessories (around here anyway) but they give you a cheap car charger and case "free" with any phone you buy from them.

Yea, I misread your message. Sorry.

Jesus! I JUST got off the phone with my AT&T store (corporate store) and asked if it was true that the SGS2 is going to release next Sunday the 2nd and was inquiring if they did pre-orders. They rep said "Uhhh... I haven't heard anything about it on my end... I have no idea..." What a f*ucking ******. This just p*isses me off to no end that NO ONE seems to EVER look ahead for what's coming out! I know people have said it before about the reps just trying to sell what's on the floor, but it's rediculous. I asked to speak to the manager and then the same rep said "Wait a minute I found it on my email and it IS going to release on Oct 2. But we don't really do pre-orders." THEN what really made me mad was that he said, even though it releases on Oct 2 doesn't mean that they will have any in store. I said WTF?!? If it's release day won't you get some in stock.... he said that their truck sometimes doesn't deliver until Monday/Tuesday... he said they run into that problem all the time and that I could call on Sunday afternoon to see if they are in. What the hell are they doing down there?? Geez!! Rant over... needed to vent.

I have been following this thread for a while now, and I am not sure if this has been covered yet, but is there a chance that I can pick this phone up on Friday or Saturday? Or will the first day be Sunday? This will be my first high-end phone so I am not too sure how these releases work.

See what this guy said in another thread.

I was at Best Buy yesterday and quizzed them about the ATT GS2. They knew what it was and said they were taking pre-orders for it. They guy said they would hold one for a $50 deposit. He was pretty sure they would sell it for $199 saying that they normally don't discount phones until a few weeks after launch. I told him for the same price I would rather get it at a ATT store where I would be more confident they would get them in on Oct 2nd (I remember reading stories about Best Buy not coming through on the iPhone4 on release day). He took my info and said he would call when they get the phone in to give me an idea of how many they had. They open an hour earlier on Sunday than my AT&T store so that is something going for them.

radioshack tends to have better prices for launch devices, I will definetely be checking them and target out on Sunday

Like I said, my RS is not carrying Epic Touch (yet, as of just a few days ago). They carried all 4 of the original Galaxy S phones. I preordered my Epic there and picked it up on release day.

So don't count on RS, or at least, don't count on one that is not carrying Epic Touch on Sprint.
