Commuting sucks...

I effing hate commuting [EDIT: To college] :mad:

I have to wake up like an hour early and I miss almost everything when I leave around 10pm. It sucks even more when I miss what happens on Saturday nights but I do crash on Friday nights for those parties and other shenanigans...

Why do my parents have to be so anal about me sleeping over ლ(ಠ益ಠლ

How long does it take for you to commute to school? It takes me about a total of 40-45 mins (includes walking to subway, trip to Greenwich Village, and walking to class). Subway ride itself is 15 mins and not bad at all.

As a real estate agent, I'm commuting all over the place and sometimes have taken about 15 subway rides in a day. hehe

I have to be at work at 6:00am. 53 miles from my driveway to the parking lot of my work. I usually leave around 4:45 and that'll give me enough time to stop by the store to grab my coffee and be in the parking lot about 10-15 mins prior.

I can climb out of my bedroom window and I'm at work, home is that close to the workplace.

Lol, I wake up at 6:00 AM daily to commute to work in NYC. Commute is about 1.5 hrs each way.

Dear god, you waste half a work day every week commuting...

I drive about 10-15 minutes, or 1.5 miles to work each day...

Living closer is very valuable, hell if I didn't work in outside sales and having to drive to other places I would move into a place right next to work so I just walked half a block to the office.

Anyway, my job is only 15 mins away. My school is about 1 hr drive or 1:30 hr train ride.

My commute for the last 2 weeks has been over 2 hours each way. Up at 3:30 am to be to work by 6, and not home until after 9. All you guys can kiss my grass....

20 minutes isn't bad at all when it comes to commutes. Parking though is terrible. Thankfully I've never driven my car to NYC but it can be a pain in the ass in Chicago. In LA, it depends where you are since it's so widespread.

The company I work for has work that far away... Usually they will pay for a hotel, but I am the only one that lives as far away as I do, so it is not going to happen. And, when I work there, my rate is $10/hr more than normal. It's worth it.

wow...........dude that really bites but i know that you have to do what you have to do to get by

my commute is right now, only 15 min. from driveway to parking lot then 10 min walk uphill to work. thinking of taking a job that's an hour away but a straight shot apx. 65 miles for more $$ :rolleyes:

it's a shame to be a slave to $$ but.......

I'm one of the lucky ones too - 20 minute commute and only have traffic if there is an accident.

Oh no no no, I never sleep on my way home. Only on my way in. It's the last stop (Penn Station). No possible way for me to miss it lol.

Make sure it is worth it!!!

If you factor in maintenance, tire wear and tear, mileage in gas, and insurance you probably pay in the range of $.17 to $.50 for every mile, meaning you to need to make an extra 2.8K a year to make up the $.17 for each mile mark, IF your car uses more gas/higher maintenance and it is closer to .50 you are looking at having to make an extra 8.4K a year to make up the difference.

Just investigate it.

Ex me:

Gas - I get around 28-29 miles per gallon, so based on $3.3 I get $0.12 per mile.

Insurance - I spend about $92 on insurance and roughly 1,200 miles per month so about $0.08 per mile.

Tires - about a penny a mile since they are around 400-500 dollars and about 50,000 miles for the good ones.

Factoring in maintenance is generally about $50 every 5,000 miles so a penny, but you do want to allocate higher amounts for rare repairs, probably $600 every 20,000 including brakes and random repairs, so about another 3 cents for a total of $0.05 per miles.

Total cost per mile: $0.26. Again, it is not 100% exact but I would err on the side of caution and estimate about $0.30.

Usually I have no problem waking up in time for my stop but I remember once being so knackered that not only did I overshoot my stop by several stations, I dozed off and missed it again on the way back :eek:

That would be nice, if I wanted to double my cost of living.
(also about 1.5 hour commuter)

Though I do get to telecommute some days

Or you could work on your own car, and save most of that money. It isn't that hard to do. And When i work that far away, I can make that 4k extra in 3 weeks.

Man, I don't know how some of you guys manage to arrive at work for 6am.

The annoying thing is that my commute (walk -> train -> bus) should really take about 50 minutes in theory. Unfortunately my schedule and the public transport times make it more like 1:40 each way.
