Out of curiosity, am I the only person here who is not planning on rooting the Galaxy Nexus?
Also out of curiosity, can you still get OTA updates with a rooted Nexus?
I had my DInc for well over a year before rooting it, and nothing actually changed in my daily usage of the phone, except now the OTA updates don't work.
From the VZW site; Q: Can I use my Verizon Wireless 4G SIM card in a 4G LTE device not purchased from Verizon Wireless?
A: Yes. You may activate any 4G LTE device that has been certified by Verizon Wireless to be compatible with our 4G LTE network, including devices not purchased directly from Verizon Wireless. Simply activate your 4G SIM card on a Verizon Wireless price plan
Sometimes verizon puts a date when phones can be sold and until then you can activate the sim but the esn would not allow the phone to be activated. Who knows maybe that is not the case, that is just what I was told.
i keep reading that the reason could be because with 4g down they wouldnt be able to activate the sims. but i dont get how that makes sense, since people who dont live in 4g areas can activate their sims. can someone explain the difference
Yeah well verizon sold it so they prob didn't care if it was activated early. I know sometimes they do that and sometimes they have a hard release not to sell before.

Ok, I emailed Anthony the author of the article from tweaktown.com and asked him to please confirm the 199 dollar price. He pointed me to a article here:
Since the picture no longer exists except in cyberspace....I, MYSELF, am not willing to call it confirmed.
For the sake of us all, I hope I'm wrong, I'd love to pay 199, but I'm putting another 100 plus tax a side like I planned all along.
I think I may have created another Nexus Addict! I'm sitting here reading the thread on my laptop, and my Girlfriend is sitting here next to me reading it on my Droid X.
And CONGRATS to you Steven! Well deserved! I would have pitched in if I had known.

They could block all the IMEIs tied to Galaxy Nexus phones from registering on their towers. So you'd have a phone that was basically unable to do anything until they whitelist you.

No - after much debate I decided to play stock first and then when I get bored I will root. (plus I will hopefully be able to play the 'damsel in distress' card and just hand the phone off to someone more experienced and say 'unlock it please'). Lol.
I believe OTA can be received until a ROM is flashed. I could be wrong though .
I had my DInc a year before rooting too! I rom'd the hell out of it for 2 months then decided to stop for a while.
I'm really hoping and praying that the Radioshack right next to my work has the GNex on Friday and that they don't know not to sell it. That would be amazing!
ok I dont mean to disparage anyone, but lets say youre some high school dropout turned manager at some podunk Radio Shack. Corporate hasnt been by your store in months. Some dude comes and flashes some green of which you are going to get a cut. Maybe this crazy obsessed nerd might kick in a little extra to get bragging rights to be the first w a GNex to post pics of on the internet.
Maybe you think no one will be the wiser if you ring him up....
I am sure that I don't know the dumbest guy in the USA, but I know people dumb enough that if they had access to Gnex at a Radio Shack, they would take one home and use it.
Point is, if this thing is in stock at stores, it is going to find it's way onto the street. That or a guy from Engadget is going to find one in a bar.

Yes, the phone can be blocked. Each phone has a unique set of identifiers that Verizon sees and can also block if needed. As I understand it, every one of these phones has to be registered in their system to begin with (e.g. only phones certified for Verizon will work, keeping people from just making 700mhz LTE phones randomly).
A stolen shipment of phones can just as easily be struck dead by these same methods.
I have one. Don't use it much because I have a separate networked media player. I'm hoping the update adds some more functionality and I'll find myself using it more.
