Root [KERNEL][GPL][R910] Electric Sheep :: 1/29/12 :: OC/EXT4/perf/batt/Smartass/BFQ/OMG/WTF :: New SU

Does anyone know why the Electric Sheep kernel wouldn't install?
I click on 'choose zip from sdcard' then it says, 'finding update package', opening update package', installing update package', then 'installation aborted'.
What can be the reason the install gets aborted?
I really want to hear that Voodoo Sound!
If it's as great as Basix, then well, my girl is already getting jealous that I spend so much time with my phone!

i Dl'd it on the 4th and havent had a single force close, as a matter of fact i used to have more force close without it.
Kernels don't cause FCs. If you have any, clear cache and dalvik-cache. Freezing can come at too-high OC levels. 1.3ghz is not supported by all devices, even 1.2ghz may not work for you.

You got a bad download. Download from a different mirror and try again.

The notification sound "bug" has been discussed ad nauseum on these very forums.

What you need to do is open up the file explorer of your choice (I use Root Explorer) and with r/w permissions, browse to /system/media and delete the ".Nomedia" file from there, and delete it from the /system/media/audio folder, and from any subfolders under /audio that you find it in.

Then reboot your phone, and enjoy those sweet, sweet notification tones.

I've deleted all of the .nomedia files on the phone that I've found.
Still doesn't make any notification sounds.
The custom menu is there in settings to set a sound, and that gives me a preview of the sound but when I get a text it's always silent.
I've been through the forum for many hours searching, I haven't found a fix yet.

After you delete the .nomedia file you need to reboot the phone for the change to take effect.

It still doesn't work.
Doesn't even vibrate anymore.
Check that:Vibrates sometimes.

However everything else is crackling fast.
The UI, excellent.
Media scan used to take forever!
Now it's nothing.
The icons take a minute to initially appear after boot.
Not a big deal though.
The battery life improvement is worth losing notification sounds.

Are you using GoSMS or something or just stock?

Stock

All I've done is Basix, after that the notification sounds stopped.

Then I did the Electric Sheep kernel.

Everything else works excellent.

Except notification sounds and the icons after boot/reboot.
Which may have something to do with the launcher, pure speculation.

Thanks, that's a good app but it still doesn't work.
Just the text notifications don't make a sound.
Email, missed call, that stuff still makes noise.
Which doesn't make sense to me.

It might sound stooooopid of me to ask but after that comment, that's all I can think of:
Did you ever go to setting->sound settings and change the notification volume slider all the way up?
Might aso help to check the box linking notification volume to ringer volume...
Aside from that, try a volume setting app on the market that allows changing of the different volumes on the phone separately... widgetsoid has a widget that does that.

The only stupid question is the one not asked.

I checked the volume sliders, they're all at max.
I tried Widgetsoid but it didn't work.
I'm pretty much giving up on it. No big deal.
At least it vibrates still.
Thanks!

update 3/11/2012
Just so anyone else doesn't get stuck with the same issue as I had.
I finally found a separate sound setting in Messaging/Settings/Notification settings/Select ringtone.
That was set at silent for some reason.
This fixed my issue.
Now to the brain issues...
