I checked manually yesterday for my wife and nothing, just about five minutes ago she got a notification for the download. It installed fine.

Forgot how smooth the Galaxy S II is, I never used kies to update my international GS2 and it was on 2.3.3, I haven't used my wife's AT&T GS2 much, but on 2.3.6 it is butter.

Seems like no one else is having the same issue as me. I rec'd a notification today that there was new software to install. I clicked ok (or whatever) to accept the installation and stayed within the Wi-Fi Network as directed. Later, I noticed the icon for the actual install and selected it. There was NO direction to make sure I was still within wi-fi range and after rebooting, I get a white screen that reads "SOFTWARE UPDATE" above a rectangular box and the word "Loading...." below. Only it has loaded anything all night. HELP!

Any ideas? I've removed the battery. I've tried to connect via Kies. I've prayed to the Android Gods. I think my phone is toast. What the heck?

I'm a reformed Iphone user and I LOVE my Galaxy S2. But I'm also a newbie...

you might want to dial *#*#checkin#*#* it will put you in the queue for the OTA if you aren't already.

I'm rooted with OneClick. My son, who is home on leave, same phone, pure stock, though. I punched in your code last night and tonight, checked for the file. Sure, enough it was there and started to d/l.

So I asked my son for his, it also started d/l'ing... but at twice the rate (we're both on my network). His upgrade started after mine, yet his speed blew past mine... I was fearing for the worst with the difference in speeds. However, once I started the actual upgrade, this time my phone was faster with the actual install. Strange.

Both phones, upgraded no problem. Both running 2.3.6

Very weird thing though. When I started the d/l I was at just over 50% battery. When it finished booting. My battery looked like it does below and recorded at 20%.

There is no OTA for me. I wake every morning and log onto my WiFi and check and NO UPDATE!

Jacksonville, Fl is a update desert!

Did you try this?

It is quite correct. Enter *#*#2432546#*#* in the dialer and it will send the request to the servers with a notification "checkin succeeded". Are you sure you've entered it correctly?

I did it the night before, the next night... upgrade. However, full disclosure... my son's phone also took the upgrade and the code had not been used. So either a coincidence, or regional.

It's both. ;)

The 'checkin' is specifically for those who decline the first OTA notification. The OTA rollouts are pushed out both regionally and by IMEI so that the servers are not overloaded during any update cycle. I don't believe the 'checkin' command will accelerate your receipt of the update, which is why you and your son got the update around the same time.

However, let's say your son declined the update initially because he was low on battery power and not near a charger (just one scenario). His IMEI would be listed as already been notified so it would be removed from the update list. For him to receive the update notice again, the complete update list must be cycled through and come back around to his phone, which by now would have been detected as not applying the patch and replaced in the queue. By 'checking in' with the update servers, he manually places his phone's IMEI back in the list and can get the OTA notice sooner.

From what I've seen with other phones on AT&T, if you simply wait, it takes about a week for the cycle to complete, but if you checkin, it takes two to three days to get notified.

PS. I got the update this morning by checking. I was not notified.
