A few questions about Rezound...

I just got a Galaxy Nexus last week and my contract was up since August and I waited what seemed like forever for the GN to come out. But.....like a lot of users who waited and got it I am having some issues.

I've been a Android user since the launch of the OG Motorola Droid, loved that phone, I got it because I was a Black Berry user and didnt want to miss the keyboard, well after a year or so of owning that I used the keyboard maybe 5 times. Then I upgraded to the Droid X, paid full retail for it, loved Motorolas build and even kinda liked Blur. But I've never been a fan of bloatware so when the GN came to VZW I was very excited, never owned a Samsung so I wasn't sure what to expect. Then came the let down...

I hate the weak external speaker. But worse than that is the fact I can't keep a signal or maintain battery life for more than 6 hours, that's off of 4G with screen at about 30% and running Juice Defender. I also can't stand the location of the charger port.

Now with all that in mind, I love the screen and I LOVE ICS and the lack of VZW bloatware. On with the questions.

Coming from Moto phones if I get the Rezound how does the screen compare to Gorilla Glass? How scratch, smudge resistant is HTC's screens? I never used a screen protector with any of my Moto phones or and I never had one scratch.

How is the signal compared to the Nexus and Droid X? 4G?

Battery life? Are there extended battery options? Thickness is not a concern, I liked the slimness of the GN but if I can get a phone that works I dont really care.

The screen quality compared to the Nexus? Because the GN blew me away....on max brightness anyway. But bye bye battery if you run it on 100%.

External speaker? Does the Beats only work with the included headphones or the can you tell a difference on the external as well?

Notification LED? Does it even have one?

These are the main ones Im concerned with. The Droid Razr is not really appealing because of the screen, it just seems grainy and reminds me of the Bioinc (Which I had for two weeks and returned) and the lack of removable battery just seems to be asking for trouble.

Oh and has anyone had to return their Rezound and if so, why?

Thank everyone in advance and I apologize if most of these have been answered already.

I will take a crack at these questions below in bold:

The screen is not made of Gorilla Glass and I've seen some people on various forums say that they have micro-scratches even with taking care of the phone. A screen protector would be recommended. It's not very smudge resistant either. It will show lots of finger prints over time.

How is the signal compared to the Nexus and Droid X? 4G?

The signal is a lot better than the Nexus and probably about on par with the Droid X. It's very solid.

Battery life? Are there extended battery options? Thickness is not a concern, I liked the slimness of the GN but if I can get a phone that works I dont really care.

The battery life is respectable for a powerful 4g phone. Better than the Nexus. The extended battery is 2750mah which is a beast compared to the stock 1620mah. I use the extended and while it does indeed make the phone a considerable amount more bulky, it has great performance.

The screen quality compared to the Nexus? Because the GN blew me away....on max brightness anyway. But bye bye battery if you run it on 100%.

I find the screen quality about the same although the SAMOLED of the Nexus is nice. I think it has richer colors. But the Rezound looks amazing and I wouldn't trade the screen quality for any other device at the moment.

External speaker? Does the Beats only work with the included headphones or the can you tell a difference on the external as well?

External speaker is plenty loud and it BLOWS away the Nexus in this department. The Beats is just an equalizer setting basically and it will work with any headphones, not just the included ones. The equalizer is simply built for the included headphones however. And keep in mind, the Beats feature only works with the stock music app. It will not work with Pandora, Google Music, etc. It is said that those apps may be working on compatibility with it.

Notification LED? Does it even have one?

It does have a notification LED, but it's very small. It's hard to see at certain angles. But it does indeed have one.

These are the main ones Im concerned with. The Droid Razr is not really appealing because of the screen, it just seems grainy and reminds me of the Bioinc (Which I had for two weeks and returned) and the lack of removable battery just seems to be asking for trouble.

I pretty much agree with everything the above stated with 1 exception.

I think the display on the nexus is doodoo. Any display where you need to crank the brightness to get rid of the defects is a crap display. I went thru 2 nexus phones and both phones had an irritating banding. Second phone also had a purple hue to it.

I returned my nexus for the rezound and I went from 1-2 bars at work to full bars. I went from 5mbs for 4g to 13mbs while at work. At home I went from 0-1 bars and 3g to 3-full bars and 4g. I easily get 12 hours battery life on my phone.

There's no comparison in my opinion the rezound is a better phone.

I actually agree, I think I gave the Nexus screen too much credit in my post above. You are right, at full brightness the Nexus screen looks pretty darn good. But that's not realistic as the battery would last 5 hours at that setting.

At an everyday and realistic brightness, the screen is pretty crappy compared to the Rezound. So overall, the Rezound screen is indeed better IMO.

And I also agree that the Rezound is the better phone overall. I absolutely love it and wouldn't trade it for a Nexus at all! Once ICS hits this phone, it will be even more amazing!

My buttons are red. I don't know what percentage of pink units exist but I do know there are a number of reported pink buttons. I also haven't any screen leakage. I don't know if the pink and spillage are related problems. With the experiences I've had with my Rez I would readily recommend the phone to anyone. The screen is sharp, the battery lasts all day, it hangs onto a signal, the unit is well built, the sound quality and level exceeds my retired Dinc, and I've experienced zero problems in nearly two months service.

Oh and how bad is this pink button issue and screen leakage?

I have some light leakage but my buttons are red enough for me. One incentive you may also consider, the Rezound is now $199 so if you can return the Nexus without a restocking fee, you're looking at a $100 savings. If I was a new Verizon customer, the $100 price difference would be the icing on the cake.

Also, you can ask the Verizon employee to confirm a unit with good red buttons and minimal light leakage for you before taking delivery of the phone at the store.
