Help How to disable data on DX?

Hey, I just got a Droid X phone that I am going to sign up for on Page Plus. I am going to call page plus before activating the phone and disable data through them, however I was wondering how do I stop my phone from automatically using data? I will be using wifi for all my internet needs.

Specifically, there are a bunch of programs that use data in the background. How do I completely disable data so that no programs will be able to use it (even in the background)? Is there an app I have to download? Also, my phone is not rooted. Thanks!

Thanks for the responses guys. I ended up doing it like this: Settings -> Battery & data manager -> Data delivery -> then uncheck the "Data enabled" box. Also, when I called to activate the phone today, I let them know that I want data disconnected on the phone. I tested it out and there haven't been any charges to my account for data.

My question though is whether I need to have "Background data" unchecked also? For example, if I am not in an area with wifi, but I have the Background data enabled, will I accrue charges for data? Or does background data only work when I'm in a wifi area? The reason why I ask is because the market app requires background data enabled, which I do allow while I am in wifi, but I don't want to have to keep switching it on and off depending if I'm in a wifi zone or not.
