Help anyone else seeing the signal bars completely disappear?

I don't get this sort of argument. The iPhone is not 4G. So what it comes down to is - would you rather have an iPhone or a Nexus where you set it to CDMA only? Or are you just contemplating ditching the Nexus for the iPhone just to prove a point?

It would be a cold day in hell when I switched from an open/robust/tweakable/etc OS like android on a phone with a screen 1" or more bigger to a closed/dictatorial/uncustomizable iPhone with a smaller screen. But hey, that's just me...

It wasn't for you to get, you don't know me, you don't know what I do for a living, which is highly technical, you don't know a thing about me, so why bother posting that you don't "get" my post? Why would I buy something to prove a point? That doesn't make any sense.

Owning a cell phone is not a fashion statement or a way to display the demographic I may be representing depending on the type or brand of cell phone I own. I need my phone to work. When I can't use the data for extended periods or have no signal at my house it might as well be a paper weight to me.

The reason why I mentioned it is because the iPhone just WORKS, period. Yeah I lose the customization I've had over the last 5 years of owning an android device but at the same time you have to draw a line where you decide to stop dealing with this bullshit of your $300 investment not working.

Before I even came back to post again, my phone had 0 bars and I couldn't do anything so I had to power down, pull the battery, restart and now I have 2 bars of 3G. I may as well get a 3g CDMA phone because this one stays in 3G 90% of the day anyway when according to Verizon's map my area is drenched in LTE(Jacksonville, FL 32224 if you're intersted).

I absolutely hate anything Apple, not just because the products themselves but also because the company and what it stands for, but I need a phone that works and I can't settle for a dumbphone. Great we can tweak our phone to how we want and it doesn't have the carrier bloat we all hate so much, but we can't talk, text, or browse the web cuz the radio is busted.

I thought only the iPhone users were the stereotypical condescending sounding people but clearly I'm wrong.

Obviously I wouldn't post "I don't get it" if I WERE you or could read your mind.

Who said it was? My point isn't that you would change to a different phone. If the Nexus doesn't work for you, by all means use something else. The Rezound is an amazing phone, has terrific battery life, awesome radio, etc. It's also still Android. Why would your first choice to jump ship be the iPhone and not another 4G Android phone. That's what I "don't get". If you love the iPhone so much, why did you get the Nexus in the first place?

Again, I'm not arguing with ditching the Nexus. It's not the phone for everyone, obviously. Nor is the Rezound or Razr or whatever. I just don't get this "well screw Android, it's total crap. iPhone just works.", basing that entirely on ONE PHONE. I mean, seriously. Android was good enough for you to use for 5 years, so why does one bad experience with an Android phone instantly make you yearn for an iPhone? I'm genuinely curious, I'm not trying to get a rise out of you or something.

Forgive me if you mentioned this already, but have you replaced the device or taken steps to troubleshoot with Verizon? It's possible you have a bad phone. I would try to swap it at least once before concluding all nexuses have the same problem in your area.

I absolutely hate anything Apple, not just because the products themselves but also because the company and what it stands for, but I need a phone that works and I can't settle for a dumbphone.
And this is exactly why I said I don't get it. I did assume someone using Android may dislike Apple products/etc, which I agree I went out on a limb with. But you state right here you hate Apple products, you've been using Android for 5 years, and yet your first inclination is still to jump the Android ship to an iPhone. But you're right, it isn't "for me to get". I was simply curious why people do this, but if this has offended you, my apologies and I won't pry.

Great we can tweak our phone to how we want and it doesn't have the carrier bloat we all hate so much, but we can't talk, text, or browse the web cuz the radio is busted.
Speak for yourself. This Nexus I have (ultimately due to that radio problem and after having the phone replaced) has none of those problems. I have had the "can't hear me talking" issue only once, and otherwise it has worked great for talking, texting, 4G data, and generally everything I have thrown at it except for video playback, which I am willing to concede on.

I thought only the iPhone users were the stereotypical condescending sounding people but clearly I'm wrong.
I'm sorry I came across that way, I'm just trying to understand why someone would jump ship to an iPhone so quickly, especially now that you said how much you hate Apple and their corporate practices.

But again, I won't pry if you feel like it's some sort of attack or I'm being condescending. I just don't understand when people rant about something yet do nothing to troubleshoot or work with the carrier/manufacturer to get fixed BEFORE said ranting. In fairness, I don't know what steps you've taken, so if this is like your 4th Nexus and you've worked your issues up the VZW flagpole and it's still not working, then I can understand your frustration.

I got that impression from you but more over you asked a personal question, you got a personal answer, that's all really.

I was also considering going to a Blackberry, but I've used em all and the BB was the least enjoyable between the 3 environments.

I thought about going to VZ to replace it or at least have them look at it but what are the odds everyone else posting about the same issue are having an issue with their phone and it will be alleviated with a replacement?

This has been going on since the phone was released and I remember because I was one of the people posting in the thread. Odds are I won't switch because this phone really is way better than any other devices out right now and probably in the near future but I need reliability.

EDIT: It just dropped again from having 1 bar of LTE, now I have no signal again......so frustrating.

Fair enough! I'm just an inquisitive person by nature. :)

I'm glad that you didn't go THAT crazy. BB is dying...they really have to do something amazing at this point to displace Android or iOS or even windows 7/8.

Actually, I'd say quite good. On forums like this, people come to b*itch and complain. It's the nature of the beast. I do the same thing. As long as we also try to help each other, I think it all evens out heh. But my point is, we are a small fraction of the general Nexus user population. We are also more technically savvy, so one could argue a non-technical person would shrug it off as "normal" or "just what android does". However, given the radio of posters who do not have this problem to those that do, and given myself and hsilver got replacements that did not have the problem, I think your chances are quite good to get it swapped. Unfortunately, that may be more involved than it would have been during the extended holiday return period, but if I were you, I would call 611 and explain the situation. Tell them you have seen others complain of the issue and their typical troubleshooting did not help:

- factory reset: nope
- sim card swap: nope
- reset registration on tower (the tech told me over time you get pushed down and down and can eventually get bumped off): nope [it happened to me within 1 hour after they did this]
- in a low signal area: nope, happened all the time to me in areas with full 4G bars
- phone swap: YEP!

Be firm and assertive, but be polite, and I think you have a great shot at getting a replacement. Emphasize it is dropping voice, too. Tell them you have doubts that it would be usable in an emergency situation if they're still being stubborn. Hell, with it happening as often as it sounds like for you, it sure would be a possibility it would fail in a critical moment.

Honestly, if you like the nexus and want to keep it, I would try going the replacement route. Worst case scenario, you're just out the time it takes to contact them, right?

I think replacing with other new nexus is definitely worth trying if that's still option and if you wish to stay with android. For whatever reason, the newer, latest build ones seem to be better on reception.

I may just do this then if for only a chance at a newer build. I bought it on release though so how would that work? I'm sure I can't return it for a swap or anything can I? I have the receipt.

EDIT: Just read the rest of jkc's post, I'll try calling but I'm usually more persuasive in person so I think I'd have a better shot at taking it to a store. I'll call first though.

Thank you for the advice, if my defense of myself came off as unnecessary I apologize.

The phone folks will be much more likely to work with you, at least that's what I hear. I would definitely try them first. The in-store people are hit or miss and my experience has been they are just out for the sale and if you come in with any problems/etc, they start getting pissy. At least in the stores near me. The nice thing about phone support, too, is if you get someone who won't work with you, you can thank them politely, hang up, and try again later. :)

No worries, sorry if I came off as condescending or abrasive. Good luck! I think you'll be able to get the phone swapped. Then if it has the same issues, at least you gave it a try and know the phone isn't for you. :)

Friends, I had GNexus since the 1st day it was available at Verizon stores and after replacing the device twice and SIM card 3 times, I still can not count 1 day when I did not loose signal (voice and data) 3-4 times a day. Can not wait for the new update and if that does not work, I'll leave in the middle lane on NJ Turnpike for all 18 wheelers to drive over it until it gets fossilized into the highway with Verizon written on it facing the Truck Tires...lol

yeah changing the sim card rarely to never fixes anything. as far as i can see, the only purpose it serves is to get you out of the store quickly so vzw reps can focus on customers that are buying crap.

So I had my Nexus at the Verizon store yesterday and he told me it was ok, as long as I had 1 bar and the 3G indicator. Coming from the Original droid that was always full strength with 4 bars, I wonder if I should seek a new Nexus phone?

There are times when this phone does have crappy reception when talking. Since this phone has a 1 year warranty I should be able to swap it right?

Will a new phone fix my issue?
