If no, point those who are to this thread! If yes, great news! Now AOKP Build 25 has implemented a way for you to hide those navigation button! Couple that with an app that enables on-screen navigation, such as Button Savior or LMT, you get 100% full screen operation on the GNex! Here's a video I found on Youtube showing how to do this mod! :D

Make your Galaxy Nexus run in full screen mode! No more on-screen buttons! (AOKP b25 + LMT) - YouTube

also, do keep in mind this is just the very first step, in the future I bet this mod will definitely improve.

I'll never understand the obsession with getting those buttons off the screen. I think it appeals to a very primal instinct in some people to "clean off" the screen of all things.

But I use those buttons constantly. They are quite literally the most frequently used piece of real estate on the whole screen. And the GNex has a bigger screen than any device I've ever had, even without the real estate used for those buttons.

And when playing a video, the OS takes over that space for maximum viewage.

I would agree 100%. I personally am not bothered at all by the navigation buttons! Until there are better ways to navigate, they are imo perfect as it is.
But you can't deny that there are people who keeps complaining about them, so this is for them. :D

Maybe a better option than the 2-finger gesture method would be to use the accelerometer to register quick rotations of the phone. Quick flip left = back, right = forward, up = home, down = app manager. Something like that. That way it's still one-handed operation.

That would get super annoying really fast. You know how many accidental gestures that thing would recognize?

It's more about the optional tweak for most imo than it is "hey let's get everything off the screen". It proves very useful and the screen is noticeably and surprisingly larger. With the LMT gesture and pie menu launcher it becomes quite intuitive and with one handed phone navigation is actually easier and more efficiently manipulated. Different strokes.... :)
