Okay, so I've had this thing for about a week. I've looked through what settings I see and it all looks right, yet today I tried to send a simple .jpg image and it told me it wasnt a supported media type.

The pictures I have been able to send, once sent, play as if they are a movie file....

Am I missing something here? This seems like a very simple request.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I looked though some similar threads, but none of them seemed to be the same as this issue.

I'm having this exact same problem with my new S3 when trying to look at pictures that have been sent to me via text. I can't zoom in on them or anything because they are in some weird movie or slide show thing that just 'plays' them for 5 seconds.

I actually downloaded ChompSMS because I couldn't figure out how to fix/change this.

I have this problem. It doesn't do it all the time just randomly. I've seen other forums talk about this so it's not just your phone.

This seems to be how all S3's operate. I hate it. I have started using GO SMS Pro and it fixes all these problems.

When I receive an MMS that is simply a still picture, oftentimes it will show up as a video. What I mean is when I click on it, instead of being a picture, there is a running timeline at the bottom that goes on for about 10 seconds. Also, then I subsequently can't save the attachment as a pictures.

I've noticed it mostly from people that have sent the message from an iPhone if that makes any difference.

I merged the thread with another.

The solution is to use a third party SMS client, as sometimes there are problems between stock messengers and iPhones.

This issue, like so many others, turns out to be carrier-specific. The latest OTA update (LG8)for Sprint GS3's fixes this issue. Pix attached to text messages are now treated as single photos rather than slideshows, and open for the user with one tap.

Just speculating, I think it likely that this is a Samsung fix that will get bundled into updates for other carriers eventually. But I can't be sure.
